North West Counties League Division One club Litherland REMYCA have joined forces with South Sefton Sixth Form College to give students the opportunity to gain experience in journalism and PR.

The club's press team and chairman Don Rimmer have been working alongside the College to advise students who are looking at careers in the media, and to give them the opportunity to see projects through and get them published via the club and local media.

Press officer Gary Langley explained: "It's one of a number of community initiatives the club are working on at the moment, to raise awareness of the club and to give back to the local community.

"In this weekend's matchday magazine for the game against Atherton Collieries, student Beckie Lees has written an article about the perception and participation levels on women's sport in the local area, and this will be published as well as distributed around the club's media circulation.

"This scheme is designed to give students a full view on the concept of how stories start, evolve and ultimately get published. It also gives students work for their portfolios and a grounding on how media in sport works."

Rimmer said he is delighted about the progress and the partnership: "As we grow and develop as a football club, we have always been extremely conscious of our role in the Community and how we connect and interact with people and organisations.

"Our affiliation with South Sefton Sixth Form College is a great example of working in partnership for the mutual benefit of all parties. We use the excellent sports facilities at the college for our training base and ladies football development centre.

"We've now extended our relationship to working with students who have aspirations to work in journalism or media. It offers an opportunity for a student to use their skill and ingenuity to produce a topical article, and have it published in our match day programme and via our printed, audio and electronic media affiliations.

"Full credit to Beckie who has accepted the challenge with relish and produced excellent work. We foresee additional students from the college becoming involved in this initiative which will enhance our media output and experience, assist in the development of students and raise the profile of both college and football lub, and for that we are delighted."
