Whatever happened to George Snee?

Released by Tottenham in the summer - anybody know where he ended up? Baring in mind he was once a Belvedere player!

Cliff Akurang or Kriss Lee of Purfleet. Akurang leading scorer in the Ryman, Lee still young was awesome at Heybridge big strong player, who has lost his way a bit over the past two years.

Haven't we always struggled to find a striker, though (with the obvious exception of Portway)? I've supported the Fleet for 15 years and, again Portway aside, we've never in that time had anyone that could bang them in. Che was the nearest, with a good 20 or so a season, but still very inconsistent with it.

 

Even in promotion seasons, the likes of Julians and Douglas only scored 16, and for the rest of the time we've made do with average strikers (Fordred, Sinclair, Booth, etc) or good players that weren't out and out goalscorers (Cotter and such like).

I feel the best bet about at the moment is the two from Purfleet/Thurrock Cliff Akurang and Tresor Kandol both looked useful each time we played them and surely if they are playing for Thurrock they cannot be on a fortune.

I would suggest they'd want money for them. It's back to the problem at hand, Ryman league players aren't good enough at Conference level.

There are a handful who would possibly make it but are either on silly money (Canvey) or their clubs have stuck over the top prices on their heads (McCallister from Basingstoke for example).

Yes, you're absolutely right. Other players who could score, but weren't out & out strikers would include Steve Brown & Brian Woolfe. More recently, let's not forget Dave Powell & his record setting exploits during our monster FA Cup adventure which finished at Villa Park (7 or was it 9 FA cup goals in one campaign? Whichever, the team totalled 10 more, in total.)

 

Dave Bostock was pretty deadly on his day, but nobody in my time of watching the Fleet could equal Portway for that sheer certainty that, if he got the ball within striking distance, a goal was a foregone conclusion. Will never forget that header at Leyton Orient. From an Ullathorne cross from the left, I believe; half an inch in front of his marker & bang: in the net. Such a shame that, given our potential at the time, he was understandably always searching for greener pastures, went to Gloucester & got that eye injury which effectively put an end to an outastanding talent.

Got to agree. In nearly 40 years supporting the mighty reds our list of deadly strikers is not very long. Portway of course was a one off and I can't imagine we'll ever see anything like him again. Dave Bostock had a couple of good seasons and Phil Stonebridge wasn't bad. Brown and Woolfe scored some spectacular goals but they were both wingers. Apart from that the cupboard has been pretty bare.

I remember Andy Woon scored a fair few but he was mainly a target man,and a good one too,Micky Angel got his fair quota of goals but after these guys,and others already mentioned i'm struggling to name anymore, theyv'e been as rare as rocking horse ----.

We had some cracking midfielders who scored more regularly as well in those days,but it's no good getting misty eyed and reminiscing it's today that counts,so let's just hope our luck turns soon.

Most of our successful strilers have had 1 or 2 players they played off. Woon Brown and Woolfie were are tremendous, unpredictable forward line, Ports scored 60% of his goals courtesy of assists from Cotter.

Let us not forget that in 1980? we had Marriner and Hubbick, but even they couldn't keep us up.

Our problem is that we have neither a 20 goal a season predator nor an assistant to lay on the chances.

I reckon the best for goals , other than my all time favourite striker - Woolfie ,was Dave Hubbick , for sheer pace and speed of mind . Otherwise I reckon Steve Brown guarenteed goals . Was it 25 in the Southern League cup winning season .

No one has mentioned George Brewster,(because it was a fair time ago,I suppose, 51/52 season)a great player and knew where the goal was,62 goals in 92 matches.Sadly lost the sight of one eye when playing against Lovells Athletic (who)which finished his footballing career.A player in the Jimmy Grieves mould.
