A deserved victory which should really have been by a bigger scoreline.

3-0 would have been a fairer margin against a dull, grey Aylesbury team who managed a solitary shot in the whole match though, in fairness, they played the match in the right manner and put us under some pressure in the second half which amounted to nought.

Things might have been so different had we taken an early lead. A superb diagonal cross-field ball let Bitz in and he was tripped in the box, but his 14th minute penalty low to the right wasn't hard enough and it was saved.

The main reason for such a slim victory was Aylesbury keeper Ashley Jenkins, who made three excellent reflex saves in the first half (all the shots were close to him but he still had to react quickly) and two more wonderful stops after the break.

With other shots going close or closer (sub Flemmo hit a post and another effort was acrobatically cleared off the line) it looked like we might have to reluctantly share the points despite our total domination, until Fish curled a beauty of a free kick low into the corner from 20 yards out in the 78th.

A good all round display by the team, but one player was outstanding. Weighty blended the experience of his years in the game with the exuberance of a 20-year-old and he was a colossus.

Hard luck to whoever bought a golden goal ticket after the penalty miss and pulled out a ticket showing the minute immediately before the number on his ticket!
