Enfield Town v Worthing FC

Town entertain newly promoted Worthing FC in the Ryman Premier Division this Saturday (3pm), hoping to build on their dramatic FA Trophy win against Canvey Island last weekend.

The Rebels have made a promising start to life in the RPD and after 16 matches are currently 8th in the table, 3 points ahead of Town who have one game in hand. They have had a number of successes on their travels, having beaten Hendon away 0-3, Kingstonian 1-3, and drawn 1-1 at Leatherhead. In the FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round they were decisively beaten 6-0 by St Albans City at Clarence Park.

It is quite a while since our paths last crossed, and by my reckoning it was probably at Goldsdown Road, back in September 2010, in the FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round, when we edged a very tight game. Six years might have passed, but tomorrows match is expected to be just as close and competitive.

If you are looking for a real-life heart-warming story, connected with our opponents, check out the story of George Dowell, their promising young player whose career was cut short in 2010, when he was just 18. George was a passenger in a serious car crash, which broke two vertebrae in his back, severing his spinal cord, paralysing him from the chest down, and confining him to a wheelchair.

George was awarded substantial damages, and having heard Worthing FC were in a desperate financial position, he decided to help the club by donating a six figure sum and become the majority shareholder in the company. After spending 10 months in hospital recovering from the car crash, he is now using his misfortune to help others. A great guy, give him a big Enfield welcome if you see him at the match tomorrow afternoon.

Good luck to Brad and the boys in this match. Let's go for it guys and deliver another three points!

Agree  Beardsleyesque, team selection will be critical to the outcome this afternoon. Hopefully, Samir and Kirbs will be back.

Living down on the south coast now, I went to see Worthing against Faversham in the Ryman Division One South play-off final at the end of last season. Make no mistake Worthing are a very useful young side, who are well capable of springing a surprise. I like to think we will edge it today, but it will not be easy. If we cut out defensive errors, keep it tight at the back, and put away our chances, I think we will win.

Not long to wait, time will tell!

PHEW!  That was mighty close, and it seemed like eternity waiting for the final whistle to blow. We secured three precious points today against a decent young side, who are quickly establishing themselves in Ryman Premier Division. They did well on their first ever visit to the QE2 Stadium, but  the spoils go to the Town, so its congratulations and very well done to Brad and the boys on maintaining our recent encouraging upturn in form.

Next weekend its FA Trophy action and a 'must win' match a short distance away in Hertfordshire. Let's all get over there, to cheer our guys into the next round.

Before then, all us unfortunate 'Out-of Towners' who couldn't get to the match today, would love to hear YOUR post match comments on our team performance this afternoon. Cheers!
