Kings Langley FC v Enfield Town

More exciting Cup action to look forward to this weekend, as Town cross the border into Hertfordshire, to play Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division side Kings Langley, at Gaywood Park, in the FA Trophy 2nd Qualifying Round. Saturday 3.00pm.

The two clubs have never met before, so a bit of recent history about our opponents and the challenge ahead.

Formed way back in 1886, Kings Langley are one of the oldest and well established clubs in Hertfordshire. The Kings have had considerable success, over the years, in various competitions. In 2014-15 they were Spartan South Midlands Premier League Champions, and were promoted to the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central. They achieved the double in the same season, by winning the Challenge Trophy (League Cup). In 2015-16, they won the Division One Central at first attempt, and were promoted to the Premier Division, where they are currently 13th in the table.

A week ago, the Kings were rocked by the sudden resignation of highly rated joint managers Paul Hughes and Richie Hanlon. Former manager Paul Hobbs has taken charge, as caretaker manager, until a suitable replacement is found.

Town have been steadily improving in recent weeks, and produced an excellent performance to register a well deserved win against Worthing last weekend, which has lifted them up to 7th place in the Ryman Premier Division. Brad should have a full strength squad to choose from for Saturday. Backed by substantial away support, everyone will be looking for another top quality, adrenaline-fuelled performance to win this cup-tie.

All matches are important, but some are more important than others, and there is plenty at stake this weekend, not least the £3250 up for grabs for the winners from the FA Trophy prize fund.

Very best of luck to Brad and the boys on Saturday. This is a must win match. We need everyone to play with pride, passion and total commitment!

Don't miss this match - it promises to be a real cracker!!

Now just 48hrs away from the BIG match.

Most Town fans will readily recall that fantastic FA Cup replay win last season, against Hitchin Town at Top Field. What a performance, what a result, what a night!

Town supporters turned out in significant numbers for that match, and the incredible away fans vocal support, helped our guys come back from a goal down, to deservedly win the match.

That was a memorable night for everyone, a great show of local pride and passion, and we need the same level of noisy support this Saturday afternoon. Hopefully, the Enfield Ultras will be out in force and will make their presence felt.

Let's hear it for the Town!

MATCH DAY WEATHER - Come Prepared!

According to the latest weather forecast, for the Kings Langley area on Saturday, it will stay cloudy, with outbreaks of rain, some heavy in the morning, steadily weakening throughout the day. Brisk winds at first, becoming lighter.

With the big kick-off now less than 24hrs away, Town will be looking forward to this match, optimistic that we can secure a place in the final qualifying round of the FA Trophy.

This is a massive game for both clubs, but Town have a strong squad to choose from, and with players available after suspension and injuries, they will travel on a high for this important showdown at Kings Langley.

Ultimately, it will come down to which team wants it the most. It will be a tough test, but Town have had quite a few of those recently, and have the quality, character, and determination to progress further in this potentially lucrative national competition.

Very best of luck to Brad and our players. We will be there supporting you every step of the way.

Give us a non-stop performance guys!

Lost to the better team I'm afraid. We didn't play badly but we were incredibly frustrating to watch, holding on to the ball too much and giving it away very cheaply. We looked the better side in the first half against their 11 but as soon as their centre half got sent off I thought that we'd struggle against their 10 and we did. Second half we should have passed it quickly and made the extra man count but we didn't. Their keeper had two shots to save in the whole match compared to Nathan who made at least 4 or 5 worldies. The goal was an awful mistake. We had a free kick in the dying moments outside their box. Rather than put a cross into the box, Keir Dickson passed it short and their player intercepted, ran the length of the pitch and put it past Nathan. No time left to get back into it, game over ! About 150 Towners there.

I think that Ricky Gabriel and a couple of the other guys turned up late, so that is probably why they weren't involved.

Mention should be made of the one from 2 yards that went over the crossbar from Dernell and a similar unbelievably lucky 'clearance' from Bobby's effort. Having said that it was incredibly disappointing to lose again in a cup comp where we should have won on play but had no ultimate answer to a packed defence and breakaways. I can understand throwing the 'kitchen sink' at it when you are one down in a cup tie, but with minutes left it was naive IMO to have left ourselves so exposed when a draw would have been ok.

Town have a poor record in the FA Trophy, and their season took a massive pre-Christmas dip when they once again went out of this years competition, to another Southern League Premier Division side, in horrendously wet, slippery conditions, against a resilient 10-man Kings Langley team.

It would be all too easy to dismiss this disappointing cup exit as simply a stroke of bad luck. It wasn't. We lost because we failed to take our chances, and they seized their chance, late in the game, to capitalise a  woefully, poorly taken free kick, just outside their own penalty area, to gain possession, break, and score a goal worthy of winning any match. Agony for us, jubilation for their supporters.

Yes, we had our chances yesterday, but we didn't take them, and Nathan brought off some breath-taking saves to keep us in the game. Whilst we competed well, and looked dangerous at times going forward, there was no end product, and we frequently lost possession from promising positions, allowing the opposition, who always posed a threat, to surge forward and cause problems for our defence. There are still areas of our game that really do need tidying up sooner than later!

We have got to get better. We have some difficult challenges ahead, starting with a trip to 4th placed Havant next Saturday, who yesterday beat Billericay 5-0 there in the FA Trophy. We need to show our credentials there if we are serious about the play-offs.

Good to see such a good turnout of Towners yesterday. Shame their support went unrewarded. We live to fight another day!
