Enfield Town v Merstham

Recommended Posts

After last weekends resounding 1-5 victory at Wingate, that lifted us to 6th in the table, there is a good feeling of optimism around the club, as we look forward to welcoming Merstham to the Queen Elizabeth Stadium this Saturday, for another important Ryman Premier Division match. KO: 3.00pm.

Our visitors are currently 22nd in the table, with a few games in hand on other basement sides, but have struggled on their travels, having only won one of 14 away matches played to date, an impressive 0-4 win at AFC Sudbury.

Last season, their first in the Ryman Premier Division, the Moatsiders drew 2-2 with us at Donkey Lane, but we beat them 0-4 at Weldon Way. This season our away trip to Merstham was a much tighter affair, and we had to stage a dramatic comeback, from two goals down with ten minutes left, to draw 2-2 with late goals from Bobby Devyne and Ricky Gabriel.

Town will approach Saturdays match in confident mood, following the demolition of Wingate, and the recent arrival of talented new signing Karl Oliyide, and will be looking to produce another top quality team performance to climb back into the play-off places.

So, another exciting competitive match in prospect on a chilly afternoon. Keep warm, enjoy the match, and let's have plenty of loud vocal home support for Brad and the boys.

Best of luck everyone. Bring it on!

Earlier this week, before coming to us tomorrow, Merstham played South Park at home in the Quarter Final of the Alan Turvey Trophy, and missed out 3-4 on penalties after the match finished 1-1 at full time.

Fingers crossed we will have a good attendance at Donkey Lane tomorrow. With Spurs away to Liverpool, it is a great opportunity for Enfield based Spurs fans to come and support their local club, and then watch the Spurs match on television in the Butlers Bar, over a pint or three. How about it guys - two matches for the price of one!

This is unquestionably a big game for both sides tomorrow, with a lot at stake. Town need to win to maintain their push for the play-offs, while Merstham need all three points, as they are on the fringes of the battle for survival. A draw won't help either side, so you could say it is a classic 'must win' match situation.

Our visitors have done well in cup competitions this season, but their league form has suffered. Town have a good home record, and now we have added extra fire-power up front, I cannot see anything other than a home win tomorrow.

What are other Towners own thoughts and predictions for this match. Are you confident our guys will be up for this one?

ANOTHER NEW SIGNING FOR TOWN!

Brad has announced on the ETFC official website the signing of Blake Thompson, a 23 year old Australian, who can play at central or left back, or as a central midfielder.

He has played in Australia, Holland and England, and was formerly with Birmingham City. He is available for selection today against Merstham.

Welcome to the club Blake!

A lively game, but level at the interval and plenty to do in the second half if we are to go on and win this match. COYT.

Note our next two opponents are both winning. Tonbridge are thumping Grays 3-0, and Worthing are winning away at Folkestone 1-2.
