Whats happened, does anybody remember the subject here. I notice the Canvey board has been rather quite lately. Trust thats not my fault. Perhaps the defeat at Norwood (who) has something to do with it. I should say in the long run they achieved a good result there on Tuesday.<p>A few more comments on your own comments<p>MERV....thanks for comming over. Do you attend all our home games?. <p>CROYDONS bad, but how about Fareham, Dunstable or Corinthian. I always wondered just how away teams found Gay Dawn (the home of Corinthian) when they played in the southern league. There may be some still looking.<p>POSTPONMENTS. Any doubt call them off. Whos travelled the furthest to see a game called off at the last minute. Bashley (another tricky place to find) was my longest wasted journey.<p>CANFAN...I like you too. You probably have a point there Dave. It's what I like about this forum because you can reach so many fans without having to keep logging onto other websites.<p>However, the previous Canvey board (Below Sea Level)was a popular meeting place for others. The arguments between Shots and Farnborough fans that were carried out on our board was amazing.<p>Joking apart, I think the level of discussion on this board is generally very good and there is so much good hearted 'p i s s taking' between the protagonists but rarely anything that is either offensive or OTT.<p>This is something that I really like about non-league football and why I feel so welcome at almost all the grounds I visit.<p>Merv CIFC

Regarding the NYD Aldershot postponment I was not only refering to Ryman League, the Div 2 game at Brighton was just one that was postponed the previous night, so perhaps its you who should get your facts straight! I think you'll find most games that day, including Ryman league, were called off by noon at the latest why was this one left to the last minute? As for the pitch whilst it may have been playable at 3pm its hardly rocket science to know that once the sun goes down it will freeze rapidly, a Conference game at Boston was abandoned at half time that day for that very reason, there was no excuse for last minute postponments the weather had been the same all day.

And that's surely entirely down to the Ref, not the club. - and as each Ref are human and most have a different type of vision to the rest of us, they're most likely to take different decisions to each other for the same circumstance.<p>Not good for the travelling fans, but that's life as away travelling football fan, full of Lows and and occasional High.<p>

I would have thought it was down to the ref but I've heard rumours of clubs putting pressure on refs to get games on, is that allowed? I had planned to go to that Aldershot game last NYD, I live about 15 miles from the ground and I didn't even phone the club to see if it was on so sure was I that it wouldn't be once I'd looked outside in the garden and heard the list of other games off, as Carjam said any doubt call it off, OK if there is a sudden heavy downpour an hour before kick off it can't be helped but NYD there was no change in the weather. I've heard rumours the club wanted to get the game on to get the proceeds from a bumper crowd and if its abandoned half way through offer free addmission for the rearranged game which is not much consolation to fans who have traveled miles, if this is true it shows how much the club think of the fans, the Dover v Margate game was another one called off at the last minute no doubt for the same reasons.

Finally I was at the Farnborough game the previous new year and conditions were not that bad, certainly nowhere near as bad as this year!

Its been my observation formed over tens of seasons where ref inspections become less strict when fixture backlogs have built up towards the tail end of seasons. This is a point i've made on various non league websites and forums and challenged refs to refute my suggestion. Funny thing is, they never respond. So games are off after breakfast inspections before xmas but are on in shin deep mud Easter onwards. Bet we see it again this year. Cyclops, going on some Ryman grounds, I dread to think what some of the feeder leagues must be like.<p>Hitchin yesterday was better than most, well at least it has potential. That club needs an injection of cash big time. The crowd was between 4 and 5 hundred. I suspect another 50 or so came though the holes in the fence. Friendly club though and friendly fans. The best programme I have seen in some time and descent burgers. Well done Hitchin. Sadly the directions from the website were poor.<p>Other Points<p>If clubs were starting matches hoping for an abandonment..that would be scandelous. How about the Canvey v Gravesend match. No Cyclops I,ve never been to Horwich RMI,aren't they now called Leigh RMI, I'm sure there are worse grounds than Croydon but what really makes it so bad there is its really just an athletic stadium with a football pitch in the middle, I've been to some Ryman feeder league grounds that aren't too bad, I'm sure when we pay our few quid to get in we don't expect the San Siro, all I want is a decent view of the game and a reasonable clubhouse, anything more, like cover when its tipping it down, is a bonus.
