The Cards put in a spirited display in front of 516 travelling fans, but the quality of the League One promotion contenders was just too much on a freezing cold evening.

Speaking after the game, boss Anthony Limbrick said he was proud of the team's efforts.

He said: "We really were proud. You can't ask for any more from the players.

"We thought that in patches we matched them during the game. We showed great character, great spirit and there's nothing more that I could have asked them to do and I'm really proud of them.

"I thought the score-line flattered Peterborough a little bit, but Baxter made a number of great saves that kept us in the game, and we probably missed a few chances up the other end as well."
