Colliers Wood United 1 Westfield 3

Entry £7 ( no turnstiles. Collected by a man passing amongst us.) Programme £1.50 - not bad at all, glossy with with lots of stats.
Attendance - h/c 30 (33)
Weather - mizzly rain for the first half, dried up in the second.

Colliers Wood United's ground is next to the A3 just south of Kingston Vale. Traffic noise is a constant throughout any match. Clubhouse is OK but basic and contains the changing rooms (home changing only) as well. One stand contains the regulation 150 seats (102) and apart from in front of the clubhouse there is only a small covered area. Pitch has a noticeable slope on it.

Although this match eventually went to form, it didn't seem like it would for much of the first half. On a playable but heavy pitch CWU went ahead on 12 when a cross (free kick) from the right went uncleared and Kaddu slotted it in. Westfield had the majority of the possession in the first half but did absolutely nothing with it. Aimless lobs up the pitch and players trying to dribble around the whole CWU defence led to an attritional first 45. The league leaders were pretty poor.

Whatever manager Reid said to Westfield at half time ( suspect it was laced with some profanities) they were better in the second half. Recent signing from Corinthian Casuals Jamie Byatt scored on 47 when a cross eluded everyone in the box except for him. They went ahead on 78 (80) when Blackmore, one of those guilty of the excess dribbling charge, made amends with a shot from 25 yards (20) which flew in. The final goal came in 90+4, (90 + 3) when some corner time wasting (?) suddenly led to Dormer running into an empty space and firing in from an angle.

Westfield will no doubt win this league now but they seem to play better against the better teams. CWU probably felt a little hard done by today. Hopefully they have enough to stave off relegation.
