Berkhamsted Raiders

Recommended Posts

I have been watching a lot of Berkhamsted Raiders this season and last. I have to say a team playing only their second season in South Mids Div2 to be challenging and top of the league is a great accomplishment so far, hopefully they can go on and win the league.  They have a very young team with local players so the future looks bright and manager Lee Groves with his assistant Ryan Sturgess are doing a great job. The big game is this Saturday when they play Bovingdon away and I will definitely be watching!

They have definitely improved this season, although they have been massively helped with being able to call on some of Kings Langley fringe and young players.

Can they go up??

Not sure what work they’d need Or can do. They play on a 3G at Ashlyn’s school. If they’re staying there then distance of dressing rooms from pitch is a definite issue.

from the Step 7 promotion application lists both Bovingdon and Berkhamsted Raiders have applied, but believe both would need to do some work to get their grounds up to required standard.

Do bovingdon even have lights?

my understanding is if either are thinking about a ground share somewhere, I thought you needed to do this for a year before promotion?

Berkhamsted Raiders have withdrawn their plans to develop neighbours Berkhamsted FCs ground. Their plans for a 3G ‘Community Stadium’ at Broadwater had upset Berkhamsted FC who've played at the ground for 99 years. Berkhamsted Raiders will groundshare at Kings Langley FC this season.

I don't blame Berkhamsted FC for being upset to be honest.

How do we think Berkhamsted Raiders will do this season, they kicked off the new campaign in good fashion on Saturday didn't they winning 3-2 at Sarratt however the Club seem to ruffle a lot of feathers along the way don't they and have upset Berkhamsted FC, that could prove to be a big mistake, they seem a bit too over ambitious.

Savagebee - You can see here can't you why Berkhamsted Raiders ruffle feathers as their Chairman, Keith Pollard, is one of these all action, get up and go types who can't sit still for a minute, I'm sure he is a nice enough chap with obviously the Club's best interests at heart but I certainly wouldn't want to be dealing with him as he seems to ride roughshod over everything in his way:

I wonder how long it will take for Berkhamsted Raiders, and Keith Pollard in particular, to annoy their 'landlords' Kings Langley, I know that local businessman, and former player, Danny Perman has recently taken over at the Sadiku Stadium as Chairman who bleeds white and black and he's not the type to suffer fools gladly:

Danny Perman didn’t end up becoming chairman.

Really, who did then out of interest, so all these local press articles are wrong:

Munchkin - Thanks for that, so what can we read into it then where it says 'due to unforeseen circumstances, Danny Perman is unable to take up the reins of Chairmanship at the present time'. The press articles back in May gave the impression he was chomping at the bit to roll up his sleeves and get started at the Sadiku Stadium, what changed his mind just before the start of the new campaign.

Possibly, his mind was changed for him.

Big J R - Do you think so, well the plot thickens then, it's all very cloak and dagger and smoke and mirrors. I wonder whether it had anything to do with the groundshare with Berkhamsted Raiders and I note that Kings Langley are still having a lot of trouble with the hallowed Sadiku Stadium turf, the home fixtures are already piling up for both them and Berkhamsted Raiders:

I was just doing the journalistic trick of 'reading between the lines' !

Big J R - Yes, there's definitely no smoke without fire is there, reading between the lines I don't believe all is well at the Sadiku Stadium and having Berkhamsted Raiders on-board as 'tenants' isn't helping

Could be anything, family, work, time, just didn’t feel up for it it in the end. The  groundshare  has been in the pipeline since last season due to the link up between the clubs. So speculating that caused some fall out is clutching at straws even for you.

Danny is a good bloke, so I’m sure he has made the right decision for him and his family.

Historically there have always been problems with the pitch at Kings Langley and I wonder if Berkhamsted Raiders were made fully aware of the situation before Keith Pollard happily signed on the dotted line of the groundshare agreement. In 2014 Kings Langley were handed part of a huge 150m fund to lay a new pitch, just three years later in 2017 the pitch was being relayed again and now, just two years down the road, home matches are having to be cancelled due to the inadequate playing surface at the Sadiku Stadium:

I note that Berkhamsted Raiders first fixture at the Sadiku Stadium is scheduled for Tuesday 21 September followed closely by one on Saturday 24 September, lets see whether those fixtures will actually take place with both Kings Langley and Watford Ladies due to begin their campaigns on the hallowed turf. I am sure that Watford Ladies pay 'their landlords' far more than Berkhamsted Raiders do so they will be given preference, interestingly they are due to entertain Arsenal Ladies on Sunday 15 September and Kings Langley have a scheduled home Southern League fixture the day before.

Have you thought of becoming Fixture Secretary?

Apologies, obviously I was referring to Berkhamsted Raiders scheduled home fixtures against Pitstone & Ivinghoe on Tuesday 17 September and MK Gallacticos on Saturday 21 September. There's still no getting away from the fact that it will be a surprise if they go ahead, it will be interesting to see whether Kings Langley's FA Cup First Qualifying Round tie against Barking at the Sadiku Stadium will be played on Saturday.
