Make that 13 points behind with 3 games in hand

Oh, okay, thanks, I was only going by the league table on your website shortly after play yesterday. It was strange that the game everyone expected goals in, at the Boundary Stadium, ended 0-0.

Another early match report, a good day for Old Bradwell United with MK Gallacticos losing and Berkhamsted Raiders 'redundant' again:

Aylesbury Vale Dynamos 3 Arlesey Town 3

An excellent fight back by Aylesbury Vale Dynamos yesterday after being 2-0 in arrears at the interval and also trailing 3-1 just after the hour mark, goals from Dan Wilson on 71 minutes and Harry Dalton on 80 minutes brought them level and they could easily have stolen it near the end:

Premier Division

Crawley Green 4 North Greenford United 1

Stingray from another Forum was at this one yesterday:

SOUTH MIDLANDS PREMIER
CRAWLEY GREEN 4-1 NORTH GREENFORD UNITED
Admission £6.00 Prog Sold out (so they said and I didn't see any evidence of any) Tea, Coffee £1.00 each eventually (see below)
Attendance 43

North Greenford were perennial strugglers at Step 4 (even though they did manage to beat Leighton Town on occasions) and they don't seem particularly well-equipped to extend their return to Step 5. First blood to Crawley Green and although NGU converted a penalty after half time, the "hosts" responded in kind and ran out easy winners much to the chagrin of the two NGU officials who parked themselves next to me and displayed a remarkable ignorance as to the identity of the side that shares Berkeley Fields.

A couple of very noticeable changes since my last visit. Firstly smoking has been banned throughout the complex - understandable to an extent as this is ostensibly a Football League facility. Secondly and more significantly, the complex has a much higher frequency of usage - so much so that CG have been booted out of the "Hub" room where refreshments were available and now have to slum it in the Bunker, next to the changing rooms and with virtually no view of the pitch. Quite right too - after all we can't have feeder league scum lowering the tone of the place and mingling their flasks, fish paste sandwiches and sweaty bodies with Luton's pampered Premier League potentials, can we.

Division Two

Buckingham United 0 Old Bradwell United 3

An groundhopper from another Forum was at this one yesterday, impressive that he has 'ticked' every SSML ground:

After watching England beat the All Blacks & having noted the continual downpour outside I did not have much time to find a game so I was very happy when my 1st & only call came up with a positive game on reply although I was informed no cover pitch side. I decided to go anyway!!!!

Spartan South Midlands League division 2. Buckingham United 0-3 Old Bradwell United at Lace Hill sports & community centre (a venue I had not heard of prior to this season) ATT h/c 36 free/ £2 programme

Decent car parking with modern community centre building providing dressing rooms & small kitchen area serving hot drinks pre match & then a room with TV & seating providing respite from the elements at half time & another hot drink. Other rooms also available for community use. A good facility. The pitch was a short walk to a higher level. The grass pitch looked lush & in good condition. The pitch is railed but no hard standing or cover. There is a pathway leading from car park & the community centre which goes behind the near goal a few yards from pitch rail. Plastic type dugouts on left side near halfway & breeze made them a little unstable during half time. A pleasant but rather open venue especially on a wet day!!

The game saw league leaders visiting today & hosts 10th but having played 2-3 games less than most. The first 20-25 mins were fairly even but I felt game needed a goal. Visitors looked to have more up top & hosts did not cause much concern at other end despite having equal share of play. It was the visitors who broke deadlock on 29. After a welcome respite from the rain at break the visitors came out all guns firing & got 2 quick goals on 46/47 to kill the game result wise. It was a much more dominant showing by leaders & they ran out comfortable winners. They look like being strong contenders again this season & hosts showed enough to suggest they are capable of holding a mid table type position in their first season at this level. Given all the rain the pitch played very well & although signs of surface spray early on the ball rolled well &as game went on this disappeared thus suggesting good drainage exists.

Despite weather in first half giving a good soaking it eased after half time & thus this provided a good afternoon's outing recompleting all 3 SSML divisions.

A report and action from this surprise result yesterday although when I heard that Baldock Town had added Matt Clarke, Alfie Donkin and Jake Anthony to their squad I had a feeling they would be really up for the game:

Division One

Shefford Town & Campton 2 Winslow United 6

Royals26 from another Forum was at this one yesterday:

Spartan South Mids Div One
Hitchin Rd

Shefford Town and Campton 2-6 Winslow Utd
Adm: £5 incl free prog.
Att: in the realms of the 'Hellenic myth and legend' here h/c 75 official 39

Directions : M4/M25 which was bad on approach and again v.slow from 16- 20 - off at 21A round 'StAlebuns' and across to the A1(M). Head on N past Stevenage to jn 10. Then drive west along A507 heading towards town up the Hitchin Road at the junction with the A600. Ground can be found off to the left; well signed.

Facilities: Decent sized car park - barriered pitch surround with lights & small covered stand.

Nice clubhouse and mobile food van fresh burgers. Mate, who'd been pretty dodgy all week - discharged himself from RBH on Wed not sure he should have done - wisely sheltered from the constant drizzle inside the clubhouse nursing a couple of Pints of Bass.

Match: bit of a romp and not expected - in that the sides were 2nd & 3rd at KO. Hosts are new at this level and may get found out a few more times - were similarly pummelled by Bedford earlier in the season.

United had a couple of very mobile and strong forwards who finished with some aplomb whenever given the opportunity - can see them possibly challenging to step up to the Premier on this showing.

The omens were not good however as the last occasion we had seen them (Winslow) at their own ground the game had been abandoned at half-time due to storms. The rain intensified just before H/T but eased enough for the game to proceed without danger of being cut short.

1-0, 1-1, 1-2 pen & sin bin. Ht, 1-3, 1-4 pen, 2-4 close range swivel and shot, 2-5 long range with keeper out of position, 2-6 turned in close range

journey back via Hitchin and Luton on the A505 & down M1 from jn 10 - queues/slow stuff nr Orbital but back home by 18:30

Pretty much the same squad of players. It’s certainly helped playing some of the strugglers in the league.

From what I can gather London Colney are going through a bit of a tough time, possibly some financial benefactors pulling out and being forced to play inexperienced players.

At the top of the table it’s already starting to look like Colney Heath may end up champions

Savagebee - Yes, for a moment I thought that the Prodigal Son had returned to Bell Close, Scott Reynolds, I think there must have been a specific reason for the Club's really bad start to the campaign, I think Joe Sweeney and Paul Copson are a really good management team and know what they're doing.

D.Webb and A.Campbell seem to have there scoring boots on of late and you can only beat what's put in front of you.
