Milton Keynes Robins comfortably took care of Hillingdon Borough, 5-0 at the Middlesex Stadium, on Tuesday 4 February and travel to the Hutchinson Hollow tomorrow evening, however they are without a victory since that night and have lost their last two league fixtures at lowly Park View last Wednesday and at Stotfold on Saturday, surely Potton United have one foot in the Final:

What a turn up for the books on Tuesday evening folks, Milton Keynes Robins make it all the way to the SSML Challenge Trophy Final having taken care of Oxhey Jets, St Panteleimon, New Salamis and Hillingdon Borough along the way and now Potton United in the Semi Final at the Hutchinson Hollow. In what was an old fashioned thriller, Potton United raced into a 2-0 lead after just 18 minutes and were already plotting their way to Stotfold's impressive New Roker Park on Saturday 2 May however Terry Shrieves men had other ideas and pulled goals back on 25 and 36 minutes to go in at the interval level at 2-2 with their Premier Division opponents. Potton United retook the lead on 52 minutes when Tony Williams completed an impressive hat trick however two minutes later Milton Keynes Robins were level again and then had the audacity to take the lead for the first time on the night before sealing a Final berth on 83 minutes against either Old Bradwell United or Arlesey Town who lock horns at Abbey Road on Saturday 7 March:

Milton Keynes Robins will get to know their SSML Challenge Trophy Final opponents by 5.00pm this afternoon and the tie at Abbey Road is likely to be an interesting one as well as a hard fought affair on a heavy pitch which could go either way. Old Bradwell United have made the competition their own this season by beating Premier Division Harefield United, Wembley and Colney Heath as well as Tring Corinthians AFC along the way to today's  Semi Final with Arlesey Town who have had a far easier route in beating Park View, Aston Clinton, Harpenden Town and London Lions although the 1-0 win at Rothamsted Park in the Second Round was an excellent one.

The Challenge Trophy Final, and SSML season showpiece event, would have taken place on Saturday (2 May) between Old Bradwell United and Milton Keynes Robins at the New Roker Park and what an occasion it would have been at such a fitting venue where Stotfold strived for some twenty years to realise their dream of a sparkling new stadium on the Arlesey Road site. Nobody in a million years could have possibly predicted an Old Bradwell United v Milton Keynes Robins Final and Old Bradwell United in particular got there the hard way by defeating Premier Division Colney Heath, Harefield United, Wembley and Arlesey Town along the way, as well as Tring Corinthians AFC in the First Round. Milton Keynes Robins achievement certainly wasn't to be sniffed at either putting Oxhey Jets, St Panteleimon, New Salamis, Hillingdon Borough and Potton United all to the sword, the Second Round tie with St Panteleimon going to an incredible 14-13 penalty shoot out after a 1-1 draw. A win on Saturday would have been the Club's first trophy since 1991, when obviously still Buckingham Town, and they may have arguably received the lions share of neutral support at the New Roker Park with Old Bradwell United's trophy cabinet at Abbey Road bulging at the seams of late.

I see that the Herts FA are declaring joint winners where county cup finalists are known but the season ending prevented the final being played. OBU and MK Robins deserve that sort of recognition from the powers that be on the SSMFL. They can afford the engraving and medals!

Yes, Arsenal fan has a point especially as neither Old Bradwell United and Milton Keynes Robins (or Buckingham Town) have won the Challenge Trophy previously so it would be a nice touch to make them joint winners. I may be wrong but I believe only two other Division Two Club's have reached the Challenge Trophy Final in the past, Thame United in 2017 and Old Dunstablians in 2003, I'm sure Motty will put me right if I'm mistaken.
