Wycombe Senior Cup - 2019/20

Recommended Posts

There wasn't a thread created for this competition, not sure why but can Aston Clinton possibly go on and lift the trophy yet again and make it an incredible hat trick following their 1-0 Final win over Holmer Green at Marlow FC last season and against Flackwell Heath, also at Marlow FC, by the same scoreline in 2017/18. If so they will have to overcome a difficult trip to Horsenden Lane tomorrow evening where Risborough Rangers stand in their way of a Final berth. Aston Clinton have already accounted for Hellenic League Chinnor in the First Round of this season's competition, winning 9-2 at Station Road on 12 November with the dynamic Michael Harper scoring pretty much at will from midfield, a similar performance could well be enough to secure their third successive Final despite the quality of the opposition:

Aston Clinton travel to Horsenden Lane this evening in a positive frame of mind and won't be letting go of the prestgious trophy they have made their own easily, they are unbeaten in their last seven matches albeit one of those was the 4-3 penalty shoot out defeat at Arlesey Town in the Challenge Trophy having led at the interval:

I hadn't realised that Risborough Rangers are one of only seven Club's in the entire football pyramid of ten tiers, including Liverpool, who remain unbeaten this season and their unbeaten run stretches back nineteen matches. Consequently, Aston Clinton were up against it before they crossed the white line at Horsenden Lane last night and so it proved in a 3-0 defeat with goals on 26, 73 and 81 minutes. To Aston Clinton's huge credit they were still in the match up until 73 minutes when full back Joshua Fox netted which said it all really as Neil Roberts men had kept the prolific Risborough Rangers strikeforce at bay all evening, apart from Kyle Faulkner finding the net on 26 minutes, and another defender, Josh Urquhart, made it 3-0 ten minutes from time:

Whilst I credit Risborough Rangers on their league form the statement is incorrect, Risborough Rangers have been beaten this season the last time being on the 16 November when they lost 0-3 at Penn & Tylers in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy

Ex Hanwell Town striker Dayo Olufemi scored 2 goals in that game ?

Karen - Thanks for that, I know you are the 'Motty' of the SSML aren't you and can never be caught out on statistics. I actually meant just league matches as obviously Liverpool have lost to Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup, it was a shame when the SSML lost Risborough Rangers to the Hellenic League only this season after thirty years in the League however it certainly doesn't appear to have done the Club any harm.

A match report from Risborough Rangers website, they gained sweet revenge then for Aston Clinton's penalty shoot out win in the semi final last season at Horsenden Lane:

Savagebee - Marlow were really unlucky recently against Reading in a Berks & Bucks FA Senior Cup Quarter Final losing 5-4 on penalties but the crowd was very disappointing, only 154. Did you know that Marlow are the only Club to have applied for entry into the FA Cup every single season since its inception in 1871, they were founded in 1870 and have been at the Alfred Davis Memorial Ground since 1928:

No I did not know that.

They don't build main stands like Marlow's any more :nervous: it's a great old skool main stand.

Savagebee - Not SSML related but talking of football stadiums this one arguably beats Marlow for scenery doesn't it, FC Gspon in Switzerland. I see that Marlow United, who groundshare with Marlow, have withdrawn from the Hellenic League for financial reasons to join the Thames Valley Premier League:

Aston Clinton were on a hat trick of Wycombe Senior Cup wins this season until they were beaten 3-0 at Risborough Rangers in the Semi Final, it was always going to be a tough tie for them at Horsenden Lane on 4 February and so it proved. The 2018 Final was between Aston Clinton and Flackwell Heath, played at Marlow FC, and a Lewis Workman, who else, goal on thirty minutes ensured that skipper Alex McGowan lifted the trophy sky high and brought it back to Aston Clinton Park:

A great venue for local cup finals.

Just to say that, coincidentally, Aston Clinton met Holmer Green on their way to that 2018 Final in the Second Round which they won 3-2 with goals from Alex McGowan, Lewis Workman and Vinny Greco, here are some photographs from that tie at Watchet Lane on 28 November 2017:

You will enjoy these photographs of the ground then courtesy of David Bauckham Centre Circle Publishing, that's what you call a football ground, Aston Clinton will have enjoyed lifting the Wycombe Senior Cup there in both 2018 and 2019:
