TringArmy - That's what Howard Wells just touched on a few moments ago on Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show, he said the Club happily signed up to his ambitious plan at the time when he arrived but then 'got cold feet'. It was an interesting interview with Ollie putting Mr Wells on the spot however he is an expert at batting off criticism and he made himself out to look 'the injured party' following his departure from Cow Lane just over a year ago.

Didn’t realise he was on again. Might have to have a listen back. We’ve moved on & definitely in a better position than 12 months ago.

TringArmy - Yes, you should give it a listen and here's a link, Mr Wells interview is at the end of the show whereas discussion on the Broadwater issue is right at the start. In a way you can see why he walked away from Cow Lane as, like I said, the Club happily signed up to his ambitious plan when he arrived but then got 'cold feet' and reneged on the plans which obviously upset him:

Tring Army - Did you listen to Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show yesterday and the interesting interview with your Chairman Bob Winter, he sounds like a really nice and down to earth guy and clearly has the Club's best interests very much at heart. I was surprised though that Ollie didn't ask him what he thought about Howard Wells interview on last week's show and why the Club happily signed up to Mr Wells ambitious forward plan when he walked through the door in August 2017 only to later renege on their promises to him.

Photographs, match report and programme, from Baldock Town v Tring Athletic in a 2019/20 SSML Premier Division fixture, at a cold and miserable Hitchin Road on Saturday 26 October 2019, Baldock Town won 1-0 with a goal just before the interval and Tring Athletic may have got something out of the game had Jay Lovell not seen red after just twenty minutes:

Yes Bob has been at the club for at least 10 years, probably closer to 15 so is well known.

Unfortunately in 3 years Howard didn’t deliver on any of his grand plans. New stand, new changing rooms, medical centre, 3G pitches - none of them progressed from the idea stage as far as I’m aware. If we’d have carried on as we were, the money would have run out by March without anything material to show for it. There was a vote of no confidence proposed & he resigned, went on 3 Counties to say he’d resigned & then emailed the club to say he hadn’t resigned!

We’re lucky to have some good people around who were able to step up when the attempted take over emerged & have gone from strength to strength since. In the last 11 months we’ve got planning & raised funds for new floodlights & refurbished the clubhouse ahead of a new nursery opening. One or two more projects in the pipeline & hopefully we can reintroduce a 3rd Saturday team for next season.

It sounds from his interview as if Howard is involved in the Bourne End project so good luck to him for that.

Tring Athletic enjoyed a good run to the FA Vase Fifth Road in 2017/18 almost joining Leighton Town in the Quarter Finals that season, they narrowly lost 2-1 at then Western League Premier Division Melksham Town on Saturday 3 February 2018 in front of a then record Oakfield Stadium crowd of 1,236. Here are some photographs, courtesy of John Cuthbertson photography, and a match report:

Tring Athletic enjoyed a run to the FA Vase Third Round in 2013/14 eventually losing 1-0 at Ashford United, having beaten Eton Manor, Greenhouse London, Ilford and Eynesbury Rovers en route. The Eynesbury Rovers Second Round tie, at Cow Lane on Saturday 16 November 2013, was a tight affair which the hosts managed to win 1-0 thanks to a Chris Salmon goal on 53 minutes in front of an attendance of 160, see report, photographs and match programme:

Unfortunately the 2020/21 SSML season has been unceremoniously 'curtailed' as was officially announced by the FA last Wednesday that 'Steps 3-6 will be curtailed' although, in the case of the Herts Senior County League, who appeared to 'jump the gun' on Thursday, it has already been declared null and void with no promotion or relegation taking place, the League are preparing to run an end of season League Cup competition for all its Divisions. That includes Division One where Tring Athletic Reserves campaign is sadly at a premature conclusion after just nine League fixtures with their last outing on Saturday 5 December in an exciting 3-3 stalemate with Hatfield United at Cow Lane. That followed a lengthy five week lay off between 31 October and 5 December without kicking a ball in anger for Ian Butler's men in what, initially at least, looked like a mouth watering campaign ahead following the Reserves decision to up sticks and move to the Herts Senior County League from the Suburban League:

Tring Athletic were drawn away at Southern League Division One Central Ashford Town (Middx) in the 2012/13 FA Cup Preliminary Round, having disposed of Bedfont Sports 4-0 at Hatton Road in the Extra Preliminary Round. Following an enthralling 2-2 stalemate at the Robert Parker Stadium on Saturday 25 August 2012, with goals from Connor Waite and Graham Hall, they disappointingly went down 2-0 at Cow Lane the following Tuesday, 28 August 2012, in the replay, see the replay programme below as well as both match reports:

Further to the announcement by the Herts Senior County League last Thursday where they declared their season null and void, here is an update from League Secretary Scott Patmore who you may have heard talking to Ollie Bayliss on the BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show on Sunday:

The draw for the end of season Herts Senior County League Division One Cup competition was made yesterday afternoon which sees Tring Athletic Reserves in a group with Hinton, Bushey Rangers and Standon & Puckeridge, there are four groups of four teams and the winners of each group go into a Semi Final which gives all Division One Club's at least three matches. Ian Butler's men will be favourites to win the group and progress however it will not be a walk in the park, all three opponents will be 'unknown quantities' having coincidentally not faced the Cow Lane Club as yet this season. Bushey Rangers had yet to win prior to the cruel curtailment whereas Hinton and Standon & Puckeridge had both won four times compared to Tring Athletic Reserves five wins and also a narrow 1-0 defeat at League leaders Oracle Components on 17 October where they very much deserved something out of the hard fought game (pictured) at the Richard Hale School state of the art 3g surface in Hertford:

TringArmy - The goalscorer is on the right next to Jess Glynne, he's in one of the biggest music bands in the World these days but will still remember the goal as he's very down to earth:
