The latest two episodes of Guillem Balague's interesting 'Chairman's Corner' feature. In the most recent one of 19 February Mr Balague is banging the drum for a 3g surface at Second Meadow and pulling out all his excellent journalistic skills in doing so, as well as listening to 'Big Yellow Taxi' by Joni Mitchell:

Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone," someone once said. Perhaps we had to come close to losing it, for everyone to realise how important team sport is for a community for any number of reasons over and above the mere playing of it.

The match programme line ups from Biggleswade United v Buckingham Athletic in a 2004/05 SSML Division One fixture at Second Meadow on Saturday 2 October 2004, resulting in a 6-2 win for Biggleswade United who were promoted to the Premier Division that season along with Champions Oxhey Jets and have remained in the top flight ever since:

As we know the 2020/21 SSML season has been unceremoniously 'curtailed' as was officially announced by the FA last week that 'Steps 3-6 will be curtailed' although, in the case of the Bedfordshire County League, it has been declared null and void with no promotion or relegation taking place. The League are preparing to run end of season supplementary cup competitions across all its five divisions, these will commence on Saturday 10 April and run until Mid-May. That includes the Premier Division where Biggleswade United Under 23's campaign is at a premature conclusion after just eight League fixtures played although some may argue that it is a blessing in disguise with the side disappointingly bottom of the table with just three points and 28 goals conceded. Their last outing was on Saturday 19 December when surprisingly winning 2-1 at Riseley Sports (pictured) despite going a goal behind on 28 minutes, Will Robinson and Charlee Yearwood scored the goals. Biggleswade United's First Team last tasted action also on 19 December when going down 2-1 to Oxhey Jets at Second Meadow which, at the time, severely dented their promotion bid, prior to that Cristian Colas's men had enjoyed a 4-1 home win over Harpenden Town and an emphatic 7-2 win at Aylesbury Vale Dynamos:

I see that Second Meadow has been renamed the Keech Hospice Care Stadium:

I see that Guillem Balague's latest book is available to pre-order, it looks a good read but then what more can there be to say about Maradona that hasn't been said already, is it just going over old ground and his infamous 'hand of God' 'goal' in 1986:

The latest episode of Guillem Balague's excellent 'Chairman's Corner' feature giving his opinion on the end of season Spring Cup, Mr Balague always manages to hit the nail firmly on the head doesn't he:

Personally speaking I am at a loss to understand why some clubs would not welcome with open arms the chance to start playing again especially with the invaluable funding we received from the FA that enabled us to put in place the necessary protocols to allow it to happen.

Biggleswade United Under 23's lock horns with Biggleswade FC Reserves, Caldecote and Elstow Abbey in Premier Division One Group 1C of the Bedfordshire County League supplementary cup competition. Dates for the six group fixtures, played home and away, have recently been released and the Under 23's first entertain Caldecote on Saturday 10 April with Biggleswade FC Reserves visiting Second Meadow the following Tuesday evening, they then travel to Elstow Abbey on Saturday 17 April, unfortunately all games are being played behind closed doors. Biggleswade United Under 23's are not expected to set the group alight having disappointingly been bottom of the table when an abrupt halt was called to the season shortly before Christmas, with just three points and 28 goals conceded, however some hope can at least be gained from their last outing on Saturday 19 December when surprisingly winning 2-1 at Riseley Sports despite going a goal behind on 28 minutes:

The latest episode of Guillem Balague's 'Chairman's Corner' feature and an interesting one about the Club's bid for promotion to Step 4:

We will now be making formal application, always in the knowledge that of the three applicants from our league, only one will be successful. Colney Heath are currently top of the list for promotion and we are currently in second place. The figures have been calculated from results over the past two seasons and whatever the outcome it serves as a reflection of the good work and progress made by our club over that time.
