Colney Heath

An interesting 'end of season report' on Colney Heath and photos from the Hertfordshire Advertiser who always give good publicity to the Club. They never really looked back following nine straight league wins at the start of the campaign before losing 1-0 at Oxhey Jets on 29 October, difficult draws in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round against Corby Town and the FA Vase Second Round proper against Stowmarket Town, albeit both at home, saw Ryan Thompson's men exit both competitions (photos below):

Sorry if this is a bit random but it's a slow news day so far, we are all just sitting on our hands at present aren't we. Photographs from the 2016/17 Middlesex FA Veterans Cup Final, on Sunday 2 April 2017, between British Airways and Colney Heath played at Rayners Lane which Colney Heath won 3-0. Don't ask me why Colney Heath were playing in the Middlesex FA Veterans Cup but they lifted it anyway:

Nice photographs, and both versions of events, from Colney Heath's FA Cup First Qualifying Round tie with Corby Town at the Recreation Ground on 7 September which they lost 3-1, their only defeat of the season until 5 October when surprisingly losing at Old Bradwell United in the Challenge Trophy. Against Corby Town, of the Southern League Division One Central, it was always going to be a challenge for the Magpies however, despite going behind early on they managed to equalise on 32 minutes through George Devine and held out until just before the interval when unfortunately Corby Town made it 2-1. Despite having the lions share of the play during the second period it was the Steelmen who found the net again on 84 minutes to progress to the next round where they exited the competition themselves, 5-0 at Northern Premier League Buxton:

Over 200 photographs from Coney Heath's 2-1 2013/2014 FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round exit to Hertford Town, at Hertingfordbury Park on 17 August 2013, when Hertford Town were still plying their trade in the SSML:

Already posted on the Hertfordshire FA Senior Challenge Cup thread but 100 photos and match report from the Cheshunt v Colney Heath Second Round tie on 17 December 2019 which Cheshunt won 3-1. The Theobalds Lane Club led 1-0 at the interval and it was only on 77 minutes that they extended that lead and then made it 3-0 on 84 minutes, Colney Heath were awarded a consolation penalty shortly before the end of the proceedings which George Devine missed however Dan Westmore was quick off the mark to score when the ball rebounded off a post. Cheshunt were reduced to ten men following the penalty when Joe Re was shown red for un-necessarily handling on the goal line at that late stage when the game was already won:

I wonder how this went today, I'm assuming that the Recreation Ground was one of the 53 Club locations for the SSML Annual General Meeting (AGM) between 10.30 and about 12.00 this morning:

Savagebee - Thanks for that, nice to see Ryan Thompson deservedly recognised and amongst the front runners to win Step 5 Manager Of The Year:

The Magpies saw their Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division title hopes, as well as promotion dreams, go up in smoke when the league was voided in rapid fashion back in March.

But they have high hopes of mounting another assault on the top spot in the division and manager Ryan Thompson and his backroom staff have been busy assembling another impressive-looking squad.

Back for another year are skipper Callum Dudrenec and hugely talented youth prospects Chris Griffin, Kyle Rahho, George Devine, Harry Lewis and Dominic Knaggs.

Those youngsters will be guided by the wise old heads of Yasin Boodhoo, Danny Fitzgerald and Jay Lovell with Spencer Clarke-Mardel and Jack Woods the others on the retained list so far.

In among the new signings are defender Will McClelland, who had spells with Welwyn Garden City and Baldock Town last year and old boy Harry Shepherd, who returns after a season with Walton Casuals and Dunstable Town.

The Mags have also raided neighbours Harpenden Town for two strikers with both Sean McMonagle and James Todd making the switch.

Dom Edwards and goalkeeper Matty Evans, who has SSML experience with Tring Athletic, Sun Sports, Leverstock Green and Oxhey Jets, complete the new faces.

Among those departing the Recreation Ground is Sam Doolan who has signed a deal with Southern League Division One Central side Berkhamsted.

Meanwhile Connor Sansom has gone to another Southern League outfit, Bedford Town, while Jon Clements is now with Walthamstow in the Essex Senior League.

Yes, a nice article, there's no reason why Colney Heath shouldn't continue from where they left off in March when the curtain came crashing down, they would have been a Step 4 Club now:

Wonderful YouTube footage of inside Colney Heath's Recreation Ground and nice commentary from hard core anorak Chris White on his visit last month despite there being no activity going on:

Photographs from a fixture in the much derided SSML Under 25 Development Division in 2016/17 between Hertford Town Development and Colney Heath Development, at Hertingfordbury Park on Saturday 18 February 2017, resulting  in a 2-0 win for the home side who won the Championship by eleven points that season, only losing two league games. The fixture at Colney Heath however, on 17 September 2016, was the game of the season with Hertford Town winning 6-5 in what was reminicent of the Hagler v Hearns boxing contest at Caesers Palace, Las Vegas in 1985:

Colney Heath Reserves hope to top the Herts Senior County League Premier Division table tonight (Wednesday) by beating Belstone at the Recreation Ground, kick off 7.45pm, their campaign got off to an excellent start on Saturday with a 3-0 win at Ware Sports and an impressive hat trick from Bradley Young. There's no league game on Saturday however Colney Heath Reserves entertain Hatfield Town on Wednesday 16 September who somehow won 1-0 at Championship favourites Letchworth Garden City Eagles last night, only their third League defeat in well over two years.

Disappointment tonight for Colney Heath Reserves losing 5-1 at home to Belstone in their second Herts Senior County League Premier Division fixture of the campaign, not sure as yet what went so horribly wrong after a good win at Ware Sports on Saturday but watch this space.

There was no game for Colney Heath Reserves on Saturday (12 September) however they are in Herts Senior County League Premier Division action again tomorrow (Wednesday) evening when they entertain Hatfield Town who were also twiddling their thumbs at the weekend. Colney Heath will be apprehensive going into the game knowing that Hatfield Town pulled off a 'miracle' by winning 1-0 at Letchworth Garden City Eagles last week and YouTube highlights of that game can be viewed here to give boss Matt Day an idea of what his men will be up against at the Recreation Ground tomorrow, Hatfield Town are in red and white:

Colney Heath Reserves are in Herts Senior County League Premier Division action again this evening (Wednesday) and entertain Hatfield Town, kick off 7.45pm, hopefully they can follow in the footsteps of the First team who won an exciting SSML Premier Division encounter at Arlesey Town last night however Hatfield Town will be a tough nut to crack if their recent 1-0 win at Letchworth Garden City Eagles is anything to go by:

A reasonably good afternoon for Colney Heath, the Reserve side picked up a hard fought point at Sandridge Rovers in the Herts Senior County League Premier Division, drawing 0-0, the First team finally overcame a dogged Step 6 Wivenhoe Town on penalties after also drawing 0-0 in the FA Vase First Qualifying Round at the Recreation Ground and will now travel to the winners of tomorrow's Holland FC v Enfield FC tie.

Colney Heath will visit Holland FC in the FA Vase Second Qualifying Round following their 2-0 win over Enfield on Sunday, the game will be played at Holland's Dulwich Road home on Saturday 10 October. Meanwhile the Reserve team beat Herts Senior County League Division One Hinton 2-0 last night (Tuesday) in a Aubrey Cup First Round tie at the Recreation Ground, Jack Woods with a penalty and Stef Geraldes scored the goals, see YouTube highlights below, I gather they will now entertain Lemsford or Hatfield Athletic in the Second Round who meet on Saturday and will also be lower division opposition:
