London Colney

A London Colney team photo going back to 1929/1930, it's lovely to see the two young boys in the front, I wonder whether they went on to play for the Club albeit not at Cotlandswick where London Colney have only played since 1976, between 1907, when they were founded, and 1976 they played at the nearby Whitehorse Lane Playing Fields so the boys may well have played there, who knows:

The Cold End was at the Harlow Arena on Monday 31 August to watch London Colney's FA Cup demise this season to Woodford Town in the Preliminary Round however Ken Charlery's men gave it their best shot and were unlucky on the night despite the 3-1 scoreline. London Colney should have perhaps capitalised on Woodford Town's solid left-back Shaye La Rose seeing red on the hour mark when the score was still 2-1 and when enjoying the lions share of play:

An interesting YouTube production of London Colney v United Counties League Premier Division AFC Rushden & Diamonds in a 2013/14 FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie at Cotlandswick on Saturday 17 August 2013. After a 1-1 draw (see report/photos) AFC Rushden & Diamonds won the replay 6-1 (see report/photos) the following Tuesday however what interested me was the attendance figures for both ties of 430 and 545 respectively:

London Colney have a very poor record in the FA Cup don't they and have never progressed further than the First Qualifying Round even in 2001/02, 2011/12 and 2016/17 when the Club lifted the SSML Premier Division Championship. At least in 2013/14 they would have made a small fortune with the AFC Rushden & Diamonds Extra Preliminary Round tie at Cotlandswick attracting an attendance of 430 and the replay 545:

Not football related but some interesting photographs of the place London Colney which I always thought was just somewhere between Potters Bar and St Albans when getting the 84 bus to Cotlandswick for matches, there appears to be far more to it than meets the eye:

The famous 'doorstop' from Hoddesdon Town v London Colney in a 2000/01 SSML Premier Division fixture at Lowfield on Saturday 23 December 2000 resulting in a dull 0-0 stalemate, London Colney finished runners up that season to Beaconsfield SYCOB scoring nine more goals than anybody else and conceding joint fewest goals. All we found out on Tuesday evening is that the pitch was shocking, the lights not fit for purpose.

Football wise we played them off the park just a shame our keeper couldn't see the ball in the second half so conceded 3 goals!
