FA Youth Cup - 2020/21

It's unfortunately 2-1 to Hitchin Town after half an hour, Winslow United took the lead on 15 minutes however Hitchin Town equalised pretty much straight away and have now taken the lead, it's possible to follow the tie here:

It's all happening at Elmfields Gate, Winslow United equalised just before the break and have now gone in front on 53 minutes, lets hope they can keep their noses in front until the end and the tie won't go to a dreaded penalty shoot out.

An amazing performance from Winslow United this evening to beat Hitchin Town's high profile 'Prodirect Academy' side 4-3 with goals from Tom Lawer, Curtis Brown and a brace from, who else, Abuzar Khan. Congratulations to them and bring on Charlton Athletic:

A Sports Shots report on the tie this evening and video clip of the final whistle, Hitchin Town look totally dejected:

This is all that Hitchin Town have to say on their website and Twitter page today regarding their defeat last night however it says it all, you can tell that they are, to coin a football phrase, 'as sick as parrot's' and were already getting ready to welcome a young star-studded Charlton Athletic team to Top Field the week after next:

Our FA Youth Cup road comes to and end. It finishes here at Winslow, Winslow 4-3 Hitchin, Unlucky lads. Best of luck to in the next round. A fantastic tie for you at home to @CAFCofficial

The Winslow lads were quietly confident going in to the game, I think they felt if they performed as they can and have done they would win the game, great test for them against Charlton and potentially a shop window for some of the lads.

Some clarification that the FA Youth Cup Qualifying competition this season was deemed to be 'non elite' however I am not sure whether that also applies for the competition proper so will Winslow United be able to open the gates when they host Charlton Athletic:

Charlton's U18s will take on Winslow United in the first round of the FA Youth Cup

The young Addicks discovered their opponents following the first-round draw this week and will head to Buckinghamshire for the tie which is must take place before November 7th.

Winslow have come through four qualifying matches to reach the first round, beating Crawley Green, Baldock Town, Rothwell Corinthians and Hitchin Town for their right to face the Addicks in round one.

A date for the tie will be announced once confirmed.

Daily Dose - You're right, it's going to be a great occasion, the tie is all ticket and I see there will be extra time if it's level at ninety minutes which has to be better than going straight to penalties:

Watched Broxboyrne Villa game on tele, they did really well.

I think anything 6 and under and Winslow will have done well against Charlton, it’s beyond a different league. Been a lot of scouts about at last two games and a chance for two or three to put themselves in the shop window.

What an incentive for Winslow United on Thursday evening and a winnable trip to either Gillingham or Leatherhead in the Second Round, I assume Thursday's tie is still going ahead:

Winslow Boy - Yes, you're right, things are changing by the minute and there's the weather to take into account too with Saturday's SSML Division One fixture at Elmfields Gate being called off, I guess if it's played the pitch could be a leveller with Charlton's 'mollycoddled' youngsters used to playing on billiard tables:

Update !!!!! FA Youth Cup game to be played Wednesday 4th November.. moved from 5th. Winslow United look forward to welcoming Charlton Athletic U18’s to Elmfields Gate. Covid processes must be followed with a number of Stewards on duty to ensure social distancing rules are applied.

Yes, the pitch will not be what they are used to, though it’s in decent nick I hear. A lot of rain could change that and it of course if it’s wet it will cut up. Still I don’t think even if the pitch is a quagmire that would be enough of a leveller. Charlton lads are full time professionals, they’ve been in academy’s for a long time, they should be respected as such.
