Premier Division

Leverstock Green 0 Harefield United 2

A groundhopper from another Forum was at Pancake Lane this afternoon:

Spartan South Midlands Football League – Premier Division
Pancake Lane – Official Attendance: 115
Leverstock Green (0) 0 Harefield United (2) 2

Easy run up from the south coast to south–west Hertfordshire; door-to-door motorway, apart from a mile or two at each end, and all free-flowing.
Entrance - £7, Programme - £1 (only a few available in the clubhouse), otherwise free download available. Decent enough offering for the price; 24 pages (and only 3 of those taken up by advertising) with up to date stats.
A fairly spacious ground, with hard-standing on all four sides. There is a significant expanse of grass between the edge of the pitch and the pitchside barrier – particularly at one end – and plenty of open space on the spectator side of the barrier. One end is given over to car-parking. It’s much tighter on the clubhouse side though.
Wasn’t sure what to expect from this game; both sides had made reasonable starts to the season, but had just suffered midweek league defeats. The visitors got their noses in front in the 11th minute, when their #4 found the top corner with a fine effort from the edge of the area. Having taken the lead, they seemed to be playing the more composed football. However, that composure was lost momentarily by their #10; I didn’t see what happened in the off-the-ball incident, but it was enough to warrant a straight red-card in the opinion of the referee. That left Harefield a man down with more than an hour still to play. Despite the numerical disadvantage they still seemed to have a measure of control. In the closing minutes of the half, the Harefield #9 was given three presentable chances to add to their lead. On the first occasion he was played in on goal, but was denied by a combination of the ‘keeper and a covering defender. However, he was brought down in the area after retrieving the loose ball and was presented with the second opportunity from the penalty spot. But his poor spot-kick was comfortably saved. Moments later, another defence splitting pass saw him though on goal again. This time he opted to square the ball to a colleague (#8) who scored with ease.
Harefield generally remained calm and composed throughout the second period. Their #9 once again found himself one-on-one with the home ‘keeper. This time he opted to chip. From where I was stood it looked like he had finally got his goal, but the ball dropped just the wrong side of the post. Leverstock’s best chance of getting back into the game came around the midpoint of the second half when they were awarded a penalty. This opportunity was spurned by their #7 whose wayward effort failed to test the Harefield ‘keeper.

Oxhey Jets 1 Leighton Town 4

Lewis Putman with the Oxhey Jets goal.

A groundhopper from another Forum was at the Boundary Stadium yesterday:

Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division
Oxhey Jets 1-4 Leighton Town
Att: 129
Admission: £7

A delayed drop off of my kids left me with 80 minutes to do SW Herts to Poole for Hendon. Instead did my local and watched a thoroughly enjoyable encounter at the Boundary Stadium.
Table service in operation at the bar, track and trace and temperature taken on entry and got to say, the hosts had everything running like clockwork.
Pleased I didn't get into the game late, Leighton went ahead after 18 seconds after the keeper could only help the ball into his own net following a defensive error. The next 20-25 minutes saw the hosts in full control but their finishing was pretty woeful. The game changed, bizarrely, when the Leighton number 16 saw red for a pretty vicious challenge on the Jets left-back. All of a sudden, Jets fell into the trap of trying to force the ball rather than trying to work it out wide and stretch Leighton who looked increasingly comfortable.
The visitors were then awarded a penalty kick which former Hendon man Connor Calcutt took. The keeper saved well but Calcutt fired home the rebound to make it 2-0.
After the break the visitors relied on the counter attack and did so to great effect. A third goal midway through the second half effectively sealed the points before it was made 10-a-side, another poor challenge rightly punished. Another ex-Hendon striker, Lewis Putnam, reduced the arrears but a late 4th completed a thoroughly convincing win.

Interesting YouTube highlights, Oxhey Jets had quite a few good chances and 4-1 flatters Leighton Town, I see there were some hand bags when Leighton Town's Louie Collier was sent off but any idea why substitute Chris Blunden was dismissed for Oxhey Jets, what did he do to warrant a straight red:
