Wrong again - There is no extra time in the FA Vase.

The error occurred on Full Time due to a new inexperienced secretary not reading the text he was sent correctly. Full Time now updated

Karen - That's really poor isn't it, you can't get the staff these days or certainly not any old school football administrators like yourself

With, it seemed, most of the South East queueing at petrol stations so they could drive around the M25 today, my SatNav took me on a scenic route to Frenches Meadow near Wycombe, via lots of scenic villages, without touching a motorway. With Step 6 Penn hosting their step 5 opposition, I expected a comfortable away win. However, in a cracking first half, it was the hosts who took the lead on 11 minutes with a beauty of a goal, direct from a free kick. This spurred Harefield into life, and they dominated the rest of the half, without finding the net, although they did hit the post once. Harefield’s fluent play deserted them in the second half, as they seemed to panic at being behind. 15 minutes into the second half, Penn’s No. 9 was surprisingly sent off, for what was possibly only just a booking. Surely now it seemed that Harefield could get that equaliser, but in a scrappy half, the hosts held out mainly due to the visitors’ inability to get a shot on target. Deep into stoppage time they did get a shot on target, which was brilliantly saved by a defender, unfortunately using his hands to stop the ball. The resulting penalty was duly dispatched, with the game then being decided by penalties. Penn missed their 3rd and 4th, Harefield missed their 4th, but progressed to the next round. Valiant effort by Penn, but on the balance of play, the best team progressed. Small covered area straddling the half way line down one side, half of which had bench seating, the other half accommodated standing. As so often, the stand was placed behind the dug outs, so while ticking ground grading boxes, did not offer the best views of the game. The remainder of the ground was uncovered standing, with the far side not paved. The ground was in a rural setting, with two further pitches along the uncovered side. To comply with planning permission, the floodlights are retractable. With them not being required this afternoon, they looked like aliens watching the game, with two lights fixed to each pole. It would be interesting to go back and see them fully extended for an evening game. No traffic problems on the way home, with journey via M40, M25 and M3.

Thanks, I have corrected the error, it sounded as if Penn & Tylers Green were unlucky despite being reduced to ten men shortly after the break.

The Buildbase FA Vase Second Qualifying Round
Wellingborough Whitworth 5 Windsor 1

A groundhopper from another Forum was at this one this afternoon:

FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round
Wellingborough Whitworth 5-1 Windsor

Admission - £5
Attendance - 65
Venue: The Victoria Mill Ground - On the outskirts of the Northamptonshire town of Wellingborough, directly next to the home of Wellingborough Town (The Dog & Duck Stadium). There was enough on site parking with an overflow onto the training field being offered. Staff were all friendly. There is a large portacabin clubhouse which internally doesn't feel like a portacabin. There is a seated covered stand next to this which is offset behind one goal. On the opposite goal is a small sheltered standing area, again offset. On one touchline is an old bike shelter, and the other touchline has a shipping container style covered standing area offset. The ground was pretty basic but clean and tidy, well looked after.
Game - Whitworth recently moved horizontally from the United Counties Division One to South Spartan Midlands Division One with Windsor one step above in the Combined Counties Premier Division North. There was a stark difference in quality with the lower ranked team wiping Windsor out. The visitors have recently signed ex Premier League player James Harper who is a central midfielder, and by God did they need him today. Windsor were physically dominated in the centre of the park. Whitworth were quite physical without being overtly aggressive. They made some tough but fair challenges throughout, some were given as fouls due to the theatrics of the visitors. Windsor may have been quite shook up by this. Their central defenders were no bigger than 5ft 8 and the goalkeeper Sam Butcher had a mare, with the locals offered to check out his weak wrists for him. It took 42 minutes for the hosts to score with the half time score being 1-0. The 2nd half was more dominant however.

Agamemnon3 - Apologies, I got that from Full Time, I did think the 'result' was a bit too good to be true, have you been attending any games lately.

Yes, mostly Herts County League stuff.  Yesterday I saw Belstone beat Hoddesdon Town Reserves 2-1 -- an excellent game, superbly refereed, and played in good spirits throughout.

I've also been watching quite a lot of Under-18 stuff.  I was unfortunate enough to be at Silver Jubilee Park last Wednesday to see Hendon U18s beat Hammersmith College 36-0.  I know that there are goal-whores out there who love this sort of thing, but for me it was a complete waste of ninety minutes.  Give me a well-fought 0-0 any time.

I see that Ampthill Town and Millton Keynes Irish will join Risborough Rangers, Ardley United, London Colney, Tring Athletic, Buckingham Athletic, Harefield United, Baldock Town, Wellingborough Whitworth and Holmer Green in Monday's draw for the First Round proper:

Do you think Broadfields United took them too lightly and thought they were already in the draw for the First Round proper later today
