Pred'n Lg - Wk 8 results, Wk 9 matches by 12:30, Sat 30 Oct

I couldn’t make the Corinthian Casuals game, so can’t comment.  Probably for the best!  Anyway it’s the FA Trophy next week where we haven’t lost for a couple of years now, so what could possibly go wrong?

Looking on the bright side, at least we don’t support M**chester United (actually does anyone south of Watford under the age of 70 still do?).

It was all a bit dull in the Prediction League this week (WHAT, AGAIN? you may be asking) as most “real" match results went to form, even though there was only a slight advantage in each game (at least according to the pre-match odds from my “expert” bookie Baby Jago).

So a special mention must go to Wivenhoe who decided to back the slight-underdogs in each match and finished up with a magnificent ONE goal. I’m still not sure how he managed that – his scores looked plausible to me!  I’d award a new award but awards seem to be proliferating like something that proliferates a lot, so I won’t.

Instead I will award the Golden Boot to Mr D, and Lucky B@st@rd to Mick The Bat.  And give lukewarm sympathy to Clive and Dinamo who could both make a case (if anyone would listen) for being somewhat unfortunate not to pick up three points... well have you thought about organising your defences boyz?

Anyway, I've finished now so apologies if you thought you’d get a glowing (or indeed excoriating) mention this week and haven’t.  Then again if you want fame this is probably not the best website to be on, is it?

So here you go.  Tight as a gnat’s thingy in Div 1, and not much looser in Div 2.  And yes I know I'm bottom but I have the means to cheat  claw my way back to safety if and when necessary.

Is 1 point a new record?

Of course not!

This is a league that includes, inter alia, The Hatted Urchin who smashed in zero (from 5 valid predictions) in the 2020-21 Spring season, and Fat Tom who was the trailblazer here when he failed to trouble the scorers from 4 valid predictions in 2019-20 (Spring).  Even hall-of-famer Ozz once got zero, but to be fair he only had one valid prediction so I'm not sure that counts.

Interestingly, (no, really), all the above were during "behind closed doors" weeks due to lockdown, so we have never had a zero with a crowd present.  And - though I can't be bothered to work out on how many occasions - the attendance has often been a saviour from the dreaded egg in years gone by.

To complete the picture we have had 56 zeros due to not being arsed completely forgetting to predict (aka the Fat Tom Alarm Clock), and 14 instances of scoring 1 (one).

For the statisticians amongst us, the average scores (excluding no-shows) are:-   mean 7.75,  mode 7,  median - work it out yourself from the graph below.  This would be a 3 mark GCSE question I reckon, though Wivvers himself can confirm.  And yes Dinamo, you are still "top ever" scorer.  Somehow.

FA Trophy no extra time straight to penalties after 90 minutes

Ah right, thanks Ruth - I lose track.  I'm getting on a bit.  Still technically before extra time I guess ! This is indeed as per rule 1.6 which will always take precedence in the event of anyone looking for a loophole.

Meanwhile here we go for the off-line gang.  And YES, it's the first running of the massive NICK v CLIVE derby.  I understand that police leave has been cancelled for the day.

Thank you, that was interesting and informative - not sure what that says about me!!! Out of interest, what would be the largest margin of victory?
