An interesting, albeit unusual, groundhoppers visit to Harefield United on Saturday in what was a very disappointing defeat against Step 6 opposition, also see the match programme:

Very true, A disappointing result but one which Berks thoroughly deserved, To many of the Hares "bigger" players had a poor game, defensively they were a bit of a shambles and up front they were toothless. Good luck to Berks in the next round at home to Egham.

The Leatherhead Lip - Did you see the kid out of interest, was Richard Pacquette not able to turn the game in Harefield United's favour this time as is often the case.

No i never noticed him, The Pacman had a very quiet game unlike his usual high standard.

New ground-125
Arlesley Town are the owners of the New Lamb Meadow but it’s was their tennants I came to see as Baldock Town played host to Hadley FC in the FA Vase Second Round.
Baldock for those that don’t know is the place that a young Kevin Phillips cut his goalscoring teeth many years ago, he went on to have a cracking goalscoring career at Watford, Birmingham, southampton, Villa, West Brom. Although Sunderland saw the best of him with the big man little man forward partnership with the Irish beanpole Niall Quinn.
Both sides are well familiar with each other as they both play in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division.
The ground itself is situated in plenty of wide open space that certainly let the breeze whistle through the trees. The main stand which was seated housed the clubhouse as well. With another seated area on the opposite side of the ground. Both ends behind each goal had a hard standing and the far right end had a terrace which the Hadley fans made use of in the second half.
The game itself was a slow burner that certainly gave everyone their 7 quids worth no doubt.
Baldocks Lewis Matthews got his header on target from a corner in the second minute that Luke Ward was equal to.
Pretty much the next quarter of an hour was a battle for supremacy as both sides got stuck in but failed dismally in the creative side of things.
Baldock win themselves a free kick on the right hand side. Alex Coppin sends in a deep cross that is nodded back to the edge of the box before the shot goes well wide from outside the box.
Hadley had their first sight of goal when Zack Uribarri cut in from the left and shot for the top corner. Baldocks Davis Boateng clawed the ball round the post for a corner with a top class save. The corner is taken by Left back Alfie Bartram who finds Marriott who heads over as the temperature drops another couple of degrees.
Hadleys tricky winger Solomon Ofori slipped the ball through his opponents legs and drives a low cross along the six yard box but nobody gets on the end of his good work.
Hadleys Dylan Ebengo a recent signing from Welwyn garden city showed what he was all about by winning two headers and two brilliant slide tackles all within moments of each other.
Ofori had a scream up for a penalty with 27 minutes gone. He rounded the keeper and went down. The ref was unmoved and waved play on to Oforis dismay.
You couldn’t keep Ofori out of the game when he shot wildly over after Jordan Edwards did really well to keep the ball in along the touchline before pulling the ball back for Ofori.
Ebengo had to be alive when a ball over the top forced him into a fine tackle cutting out the ball to Ashley Hay.
Hay must have thought that all his christmases had come at once when a loose pass from Bartram put Hay in with a sight of goal. Hay shanked his shot well wide when some composure was needed in front of goal.
Baldocks Owen beat the offside trap but luckily for Hadley Owens low drive went just past the far post.
As the half entered injury time an Aedan Gaffney corner was headed home by Skipper Josh Furness with some power to send the home side in 1-0 up at half time.
HT - Baldock Town 1-0 Hadley FC
Suitably refreshed after 15 minutes in the warmth of the club house it was back out for the second half and the handful of nutters who thought it was a good idea to wear shorts.
Ofori sent in another good pull back signalling Hadleys intentions to go for it in the second half.
Hadleys tall lean centre forward Jordan Edwards will be kicking himself when he received the ball in the six yard box. Instead of equalising he got the ball caught under his feet before Baldock scramble the ball clear.
Bartram took a booking for the team as he stopped a quick Baldock break on the halfway line. Next into the book was Baldocks Matthews as he got to right to Ofori who turned him 30 yards from goal.
Ofori continues his busy display with another shot on target that is collected easily by Boateng.
Bartram is replaced by Ed Davis as Hadley take a defender off for a midfield player as they chase the game.
Edwards is next into the refs little black book for a foul on the halfway line that stopped Baldock breaking.
Baldocks Gaffney makes way for David Duah.
Ofori dribbles his way down the wing before slipping the ball inside to Urribari who’s shot took a deflection before going out for a corner.
77 minutes gone and it looked like Baldock had sewn the game up when a fast break down the right from Finley Aldridge saw him fly past his man before a superb low finish across the keeper into the bottom corner saw Baldock double their lead with 13 minutes remaining. 2-0
Matthews is replaced by highly rated youngster Richard Kursorgbor who has been invited to train with the Colchester United Academy.
Hadley knew they had to throw the kitchen sink at Baldock if they were to get anything from the game. Bradley Marriott had a hopeful pop from outside the box, his effort hit the bar and it was wide man Ofori who reacted the quickest lifting his shot into the roof of the net to reduce the deficit. 2-1
Hay collects the ball and plays Aldridge in who made Ward work to keep the score the same. Shortly after it was Finley Aldridge again as he turned his man and went straight for the killer third goal. As he cut in from the left he tried to bend the ball into the top corner. Sadly for Baldock it was just off target, a real let off for Hadley.
Just like the first half a late stoppage time goal would prove to be crucial as Ofori broke away and lifted a fine effort over the onrushing keeper to send the tie into a penalty shoot out. 2-2.
FT - Baldock Town 2-2 Hadley FC
Penalties as follows - Hadley-Marriott-Goal, Baldock-Coppin-Goal, Hadley-Jupp-Saved, Baldock-Aldridge-Goal, Hadley-Davis-Goal, Baldock-Downes-Goal, Hadley-Alfano-Goal, Baldock-Owen-Saved, Hadley-Harold-Egole-Goal, Baldock-Furness-Goal, Hadley-Uribarri-Goal, Baldock-Franklin-Miss - Baldock 4-5 Hadley
A cruel way for Baldock to exit the competition. Fair play to Hadley who can enjoy an away trip to Fakenham in the next round.
NLCMOM-Solomon Ofori-(Hadley) Two well taken goals.
