Looking forward to View from the Boundary's report on this one at about 11.00pm, Aylesbury Vale Dynamos have won just once in their last seven fixtures, against lowly London Colney, and conceding 26 goals in those games so he should be reporting on a Oxhey Jets victory:

Swings and roundabouts; on Saturday we somehow came away with 3 points without deserving to, tonight we were on the wrong end of it.

Two committed sides played out a full blooded match, lots of decent control on the bone hard surface without a great deal of quality in truth. An exception to that was the ball Kristian Swaby played to Jake Tabor from the left to play the teenage striker in after 10 minutes, who was into May while the defender was still enjoying Easter. He dusted himself down but then proceeded to do his best Chris Waddle in Turin impersonation, and 3 minutes later the home side got their noses in front.

Tabor again wasted a gilt edge chance seconds after the restart, he even had two bites at it and had it been hit anywhere else it would have been one all but alas straight at the keeper it was. Even Vass Mandeville came close with a well struck shot from the edge of the box which the keeper did well to claw away from the top corner, but it just wasn't our night.

The usual eccentric refereeing, this one didn't seem to know an attacker can't be offside in their own half (the freekick given inside our half for heaven's sake!) and also that only goalkeepers are permitted to handle the ball, a recurrent theme of the evening. For all that an enjoyable evening at a nice ground and a friendly club. Even if it means the dream of 11th is officially over ?Edit: Just checked the table, hope springs eternal, still possible to finish top of the bottom half! (requires an unlikely set of results but you never know in this league do you?)

It could be worse - I wouldn't want to be in London Colney's shoes tonight ?

I notice that tonight's defeat at Tring means that Risborough Rangers still have some work to do to be SSML champions.  New Salamis will now take the title if they can win at Risborough on Saturday.

It's a tough ask, but the Salamina have the best away record in the League, and fear no-one, and so will certainly be up for it.

More importantly perhaps, it is being reported on a number of other platforms that Risborough have failed the Step 4 ground-grading requirements and have been informed that they will not be promoted, which may mean that Hadley go up automatically in their stead.  It is not yet clear why Risborough have failed, but as they have topped the table for most of the season the requirements needed for promotion must have occurred to them before now.  Ground-grading standards are clear for all to see, it is not as if they come as a surprise.

At a game earlier this season, I noted some Risborough officials exclaiming quite loudly that they 'couldn't wait to get out of this shit division'.  This seemed a bit rich, as they didn't actually 'earn' promotion to 'this shit division' in the first place, but were simply awarded it by the FA following their performances over the two truncated seasons.

Risborough are appealing the grading decision, and I am aware of one source citing 'bloody-mindedness' and 'arrogance' on the part of the ground-graders.  Well chaps, perhaps you reap just what you sow...

Both sides of the story and a groundhopper from another Forum was present:

(A) Holmer Green – Leverstock Green F.C. (levgreenfc.co.uk)

Holmer Green 2-2  Leverstock Green
Spartan South Midlands Premier
Entry £7, programme online
Attendance: 54

For my 152nd game of the season, I headed to my local side Holmer Green for my 11th visit to Watchet Lane. Holmer Green were just outside the two relegation places with Leverstock Green in 8th. The visitors started brighter and they took the lead on 10 minutes when Rawn Seale headed home from a corner. Holmer Green improved but didn't seem to have their shooting boots on. They did equalize on 48 minutes when a free-kick from the right was headed home by Oskar Evans. Leverstock Green quickly retook the lead when Rawn Seale played a square ball to Jamie Calvin who finished with a low shot from six yards. Holmer Green got a deserved equalizer on 79 minutes, a tremendous 25-yard lob by captain Alex Dimitrijevic after he spotted the keeper off his line. Leverstock Green bought on former Wycombe man Scott McGleish but Holmer Green looked the most likely to win. The draw sends Holmer Green into the relegation zone with a crunch game against Baldock Town on Saturday which they need to win to stay up and hope that Crawley Green don't win.

Crawley Green's version of events and Baldock Town's team sheet, Paul Blackman has certainly turned things around at The Brache lately. There was aIso an interesting preview on the game courtesy of the Non-League Nation website:

Great run by Clinton, 15 wins on the bounce to draw level on points with us. amazing what confidence that brings and not easy to chase teams with so many games in hand. Going to be a good last 3 games.

A win Saturday for both teams will secure top 2 finish.

Munchkin - Yes, it's an amazing run by Aston Clinton, groundhopper 'Base of the Pyramid' was in attendance at the Lace Hill Sports and Community Centre last night as weII as a groundhopper from another Forum:

Flag Day - Base of the Pyramid (botp.co.uk)

Spartan South Midlands League Division Two
Buckingham United 1-4 Aston Clinton

Admission - free
Attendance - c40
Venue: Lace Hill Sports & Community Centre - Based on a new build housing estate in the south of Buckingham, the Lace Hill Sports & Community Centre is a big modern building with kids playground and a fully railed pitch offering nice views over the Buckinghamshire countryside.
Game - I had managed to add this game to Futbology a couple of weeks previous when I noticed that both teams are ‘registered’ in the app, so it was nice to see 9 groundhoppers ‘checking in’ off my work. Aston Clinton the better side, Buckingham sloppy in possession. Buckingham forwards constantly offside. Aston scored the first through the left winger chopping in and firing into the bottom corner despite the United keeper getting a touch. 0-1. Shortly after, Aston had a 2nd when the United goalkeeper opted to try and smartly tap the ball over the strikers head to get a cleaner catch, but gave the ball away to the Aston captain who was able to convert. 0-2. The United striker finally managed to keep his line after around a dozen offsides, he then appeared to be taken down in the box but it wasn’t given. On the counter Aston nearly made it three but a smart stop from the keeper. United pulled one back when a ball from the left was chested down from the unmarked striker who made no mistake with the finish. 1-2. The 2nd half saw Aston score early on when the United defenders stood still and the ball was pulled back and easily slotted home. 1-3. United beat the offside trap and with 2 players clean through on goal, the ball was passed to the open player to tap in but he skied it over the bat. Some intricate play from Aston around the static United defence saw a 4th smashed into the bottom corner. 1-4. One of the prolific offsiders for United beat the trap but was taken down by the onrushing Aston keeper. The fouled player took the penalty which was then saved. Full time 1-4.

A groundhopper from another Forum was present at Manor FieIds, the guy who painstaingIy Iists aII the pIayers:

Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division
Milton Keynes Irish 0-0 Ardley United

Admission - £7, Attendance - 76
Venue: Manor Fields - Situated in Fenny Stratford, just South of Milton Keynes and off the A5. This is a complex housing an Irish centre, rugby and cricket clubs. As usual I didn’t research the ground before a visit, I never do. I was surprised with the long stand along the touchline offering 3 rows of covered seating, over the whole side of the touchline. The opposite touchline houses an older stand which is slightly raised. There appears to be a lot of work going on in the far goal line with landscaping akin to terracing there. Unsure if that’s the plan.
Game - Very boring, my first 0-0 in nearly 100 games, Ardley had some late pressure but it led to nothing.
