FA Cup 2nd Round Draw

The draw will be shown live on TNT tomorrow before the Tamworth v Leyton Orient game.

Ball number 25.

I reckon we need to avoid any far flung trips to places like Gateshead and Carlisle.

Also avoiding the clubs in our division which I think are only Chelmsford and Weston.

A home draw against a league club would imo be the ideal draw to be one of the TV games and the money that comes with it.

Like the last round there are plenty of rubbish draws we could get. But a big advantage is there are now only half the teams involved meaning more league clubs and a higher chance of getting one. Unless we get Wycombe, Bolton or another ‘big’ club away I’d rather be home as the chances of a live tv game would be a lot higher.

I was surprised to see that fans of the bigger League One clubs don’t seem interested in the early rounds of the FA Cup…. example Bolton (avg league att 21,000) v Huddersfield (17,000) got an attendance of 6,000.

So there isn’t a fortune to be made on gate receipts from playing away them.

With the incentive of a game against a Prem or Championship club this might change in the next round.

Of course if we draw a big league one or two club away they might think it's a given and not be so interested.

I really think a home draw against a big club to get the TV money will be the best draw for us.

Would a Wycombe v Slough be a sell out though?
The last league match we had there had an attendance of 7,000+

At Wycombe no it wouldn’t sell out their 10,000 capacity stadium but should still attract 7-8,000. Their away end holds 2,000 not sure we’d fill that though.

Local interest and old rivalry would I'm sure see a decent turn out.

Max allowed is just over 10,000 so it wouldn't be anywhere near that.

They are averaging around 5,500 at home this season so I'd guess somewhere around 4,000 to 5,000?

I’d hope we’d take at least 1,000 and it’ll be very disappointing if the crowd was less than 6,000.

When we last played in the league there, it was 7230 capacity sellout, with many more on the hill behind the woodlands terrace. The current double decker stand was the woodlands terrace, just a single tier roofed terrace, same height as the current home end, and the away end has also since been expanded, at the time it was identical to the current home end.

I think we could be the lowest ranked team in the 2nd round, can anyone confirm?

That will guarantee us TV coverage regardless of our opponents imo

If we’re home to any league side I’d say we have a very good chance of being selected for a live tv match. But if we’re away it’s not so likely especially if it’s a low L2 club or worst still a NL or NLS/N team!!!

I would just hope that at least we can avoid an away match against another non league club.

After tonight’s match there will probably only be 10 of them.

So, 50/50 we get an away draw & a one in 4 chance of a non league club…. only a 1 in 8 chance of what I would call an unattractive match at this stage of the competition.

There are the obvious clubs we'd like to draw tonight but which ones do we want to avoid at all costs?

My must avoid especially away from home are: Chelmsford, Weston, Wealdstone and Boreham Wood.

Distant away games to avoid: Gateshead, Barrow and Carlisle.

Brackley, Buxton, Sutton United would be crap too! Just need to be home to a league club and on tv, simples!

I'm going to be controversial here.... We played Weston recently with a patched together side.... is there a phycological advantage to have them at home with Greenidge etc back in the side and sucker punch them for the biggest ever game in round 3?

No thanks! Really want to avoid any other non league side even at home.
