FA Vase Second Round
Little Oakley v Harpenden Town

This could be quite a tricky assignment for Harpenden Town against fourth in the Essex Senior League, with games in hand, Little Oakley, Harpenden Town have surprisingly only reached the Third Round of the FA Vase once in their history, last season losing on penalties at Dereham Town:

Promotional graphic split in red and green sections with text announcing 3 days to go for the Isuzu FA Vase second round match between Little Oakley FC and Harpenden Town FC at Little Oakley Memorial Ground sponsored by A&S Aggregates Ltd on Saturday November 9th at 3pm kick-off. Includes the FA Vase trophy logo.

Haringey Borough 3 Eynesbury Rovers 1

A groundhopper from another Forum was in attendance at Coles Park to witness Haringey Borough's 3-1 win over United Counties League Premier Division South Eynesbury Rovers:

FA Vase 2nd Round
Haringey Borough 3 Eynesbury Rovers 1
Admission £5 (concession) Attendance 224 announced (my h/c 165)

5th in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Haringey met 12th in the United Counties Premier South Eynesbury in an encounter that had more goalmouth action in the first fifteen minutes than in the whole of my earlier game. Both teams had chances early on but it was Eynesbury who took the lead on 25 minutes when left back Kimpton curled a free kick around the defensive wall and into the far corner. Haringey got back into the game just before half time when Young's shot finished up in the top corner although I thought it was with the help of a deflection. They were a little unlucky not to go into the break in front but a well struck free kick cannoned back into play off the far post.
Haringey were well on top in the second half and took the lead on 52 minutes when a mazy run and low cross left Alves with a simple close range finish. The match was effectively over ten minutes later when it was Clinton's turn to finish from a couple of yards out with a stooping header. Eynesbury tried hard in the final half hour but never really troubled home keeper Barnes and so it was the hosts who progress to the third round of the competition.
A late start due to missing corner flags and a number of injuries during the game meant it was past 5 o'clock when we finished so I was pleased only to have to wait a few seconds for a W3 bus back to White Hart Lane station and a conveniently timed connecting train back to Liverpool Street.

The draw for the Third Round of the FA Vase was made yesterday that sees Cockfosters entertain Soul Tower Hamlets, Desborough Town travel to Sutton United (Birmingham) and, surprise surprise out of 32 ties, Harpenden Town meeting Haringey Borough at Rothamsted Park:

Image displays a numbered list of 16 football match fixtures for the FA Vase 3rd Round. Each entry pairs two team names such as Wansford United versus Prescot Cables in position 1 and Hythe Town versus Sheppey United in position 16. The text is presented in a simple black font on white background with clear spacing between lines.

Very disappointing. I’m told we just didn’t play well, few too many missed chances and a couple of woeful mistakes.
