Flat performance unfortunately. Ref did us no favours but wouldn’t use that as an excuse (well done to the assistant for overruling the penalty). Think we are running into too many full time clubs that can recover quicker than us. Just need to take on players a bit more so we can get final balls in as we are not creating chances. Still having a great season and we are getting through a lot of difficult away games so I’m not too disappointed. New players are still finding their feet but effort was there . COYU

I know but we have played a number of full time clubs like Worthing recently and I think it’s taken its toll

I don’t think Worthing are full time either mate think they’re hybrid

The point is we’ve played Chelmsford away, Torquay away, Worthing away and Hemel away in recent weeks and we are part time

Look at the positions in the league of the teams we’ve played recently , we are not the biggest club in the league by a long way. Look at the average home attendances, we are not in the top half. To have got to the position in the league and maintained that into December is really impressive I think. Of the big clubs in this league the only one left to play is Dagenham. Were we poor Saturday? Yes there’s no escaping that but I think we need to manage our expectations. Did anyone seriously think at the beginning of the season we were going to win this league? Honestly?

If we were to get promoted it'd be unreal beyond belief considering where we've spent most of our seasons and the fact we are part-time. As for attendances I feel we are below where we'll end up as we still have to play Chelmsford, Torquay, Dagenham and a few other decent supported sides at home plus assuming we stay near the top the interest will be big later in the season.

As has been stated, our gates are very much towards the lower end of the division.

However, we now have a squad of around 23/24 players and only a fraction of their salaries are likely to come from gate receipts, bar profits or the like.

This is quite apart from having a, presumably, full-time manager plus the massive additional costs of competing in a league of this standard.

Alex Sharp has clearly put in large amounts of money but I would doubt whether he would be in the millionaire class of, Tamplin for example, when he poured vast amounts into Billericay.

It would be interesting to know (although very unlikely to find out) the source of the highly significant amounts of money that are being pumped into Hornchurch.

I spoke to someone involved with the club who said that the club would need gates in excess of 1500 to be self financing. The cost to the club of going up a league must be way beyond us at present and to increase our gate by 100% to be substainable at our present level , then the next step as much as we would hope is really a bit beyond us at this moment in the club’s progression. I hope that I don’t sound too negative but I just worry about overstretching ourselves and the consequences of that, we have an amazing owner in Alex and I can’t imagine many teams at our level have such good fortune, but we can’t expect him to support us financially for ever.
