3:00pm kick-offs are a historical thing going back to the days when a lot of the supporters and players would work on Saturday mornings either as part of their fixed contract or as overtime. That was before the parttime world of 35-hour weeks, so they would finish work at 12: or 1:00 and then go to the game. Saturday mornings being used as extra capacity of special jobs such as machine moves.

It also would allow for travelling to distant games on public transport.

Another factor influencing the 3:00pm kick- off was the weather – it would allow more time for frozen pitches to thaw out or snow to be cleared, or for the groundsman to deal with sodden areas of the pitch.

And For those who need to be drunk to attend the game there was more drinking time available!

 

For others who had too do shopping chores with the wife it allowed matrimonial harmony before the complaint of “why do you go to the football you always loose”

A 1:00 pm kick off would save on flood-lights but some officials would still want them on as their eyesight is that poor!

You wont please everyone so 3:00 pm is the traditional time and for the occasional fan that is the time they will have in their head- as has been seen when a 1;00pm kick-off has happened you then get a few turn up at the end of the game thinking it was at 3:00pm during the Christmas period an earlier start can solve clashes with family commitments and complaints from the wife.

When I first started going to the Dolphin kick offs got progressively earlier as the nights drew in. 3pm became 2.45, became 2.30, became 2.15. If there was a possibility of extra time (Amateur Cup matches were replayed the following Saturday) I think they went back to 1.45. Also postponements could be quite late. I recall finding out that one Derby game at York Road had been postponed owing to frost only as we got off the bus in Maidenhead bus station.

more importantly this is a must win game or the relegation position will be start to look permanent and escape will then be in the hands of other team’s; this game and the next against Chesham have turned into season defining games – they will also influence gate size of the rest of the season – so lots of pressure on the team performance in the next few days.

I wouldn't say this a must win game but certainly we need to start picking up points starting today and in our next two games which are both at home.

After a few days of stuffing myself, I'm quite enjoying the thought of getting some much needed exercise and walking to the game today.

I see it's another place that does on-line match programmes.

No proper programmes on sale at the ground.

Maidenhead, you know what you can do with your QR code offering. 

I noticed that Maidenhead offered their fans the chance at the start of the season to guarantee obtaining a physical copy of their programme for each home league game, just like we did.

These Maidenhead copies though apparently have to be individually printed.

Maidenhead charged their fans £200 for this service.

£200 !!!!!!!!!!!

That's £8.70 for each programme !

I love my match programmes but I wouldn't pay nearly £9 for one !

One match programme for today's game is already on sale on ebay, with bidding (including postage) starting at £7.94.

I won't be bidding at that price.

I'm looking forward to the match today.

For the first time in a long time, I feel it's a proper "derby" on a Boxing Day.

Nothing like those days in the past when we played  Wyscum, but the best we will ever get now.

(Unless God Willing the 'scum have a meteoric fall from their current lofty position.).

Asked MUFC this question and as usual no one bothers to reply (I find it so irritating especially as a paying customer that a business acts so unprofessionally!!!). Anyway did my own research and we enter via the Bell Street turnstiles.

Hoping we can take around 300 today and being all in one corner should hopefully create a decent atmosphere. But more importantly we really have to win today or a minimum of 4 points from today and Chesham. We can’t keep saying we have loads of games left or games in hand.
