Dunstable Town/AFC Dunstable Merger

Recommended Posts

With both Club's struggling badly this season it has been decided to merge at the end of this season, the merger was discussed on Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show last night with Dunstable Town Chairman Matt Carrington and Louise Powell from AFC Dunstable:

It is looking like the merger between Dunstable Town and AFC Dunstable is almost signed sealed and delivered following the well attended meeting that took place at Creasey Park last Friday evening, pending Football Association (FA) rubber stamping:

We shared tonight that we are still waiting for formal acceptance from the FA. Everything has been submitted and we are just waiting the final confirmation that this merger can go ahead. Everything has been submitted. You will be the first to know as soon as we get a response.

Thank you to all of those that attended the fan engagement session yesterday, it was a fabulous evening and great to see both AFC and DT fans mingling and engaging. A great insight what one united future could look like. Over the coming weeks we will share some of our thinking.

Good news for Dunstable Town and AFC Dunstable should the merger happen. Also see a recent article about the merger from the interesting 'Game of the People' website:

I see that Dunstable Town Chairman Matt Carrington was featured on Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show yesterday (Monday 20 April) evening following the Club's 1-0 win over Aylesbury Vale Dynamos on Saturday, in front of an attendance of 534 at Creasey Park. Mr Carrington talks about the proposed merger with AFC Dunstable although he was a little 'cagey' with Ollie and, disappointingly, played his cards close to his chest. Fast forward to 26 minutes into the show (link below):

An interesting video from last Saturday's (25 April) AFC Dunstable v Rayners Lane Southern League Division One Central fixture, courtesy of groundhopper and blogger James Boyall who visited Creasey Park for AFC Dunstable's final game in their history ahead of the merger with Dunstable Town which looks to be definitely going ahead. Mr Boyall let the cat out of the bag that the merged Club is likely to be called Dunstable United:

I see that the newly merged Club, Dunstable FC, have announced that Steve O'Reilly and Micky Nathan will be retained as their joint Managers for the 2026/27 season:

ANNOUNCEMENT: Following the news of the new Club name it has been confirmed that Steve O’Reilly and Micky Nathan will be joint Managers of the men’s first team for the 2026/27 season. Both worked extremely hard to guide the team in retaining the Step Five status last season and did an excellent job gaining 18 points from the last eleven games to finish fourth from bottom, two places outside the relegation zone. They will now work towards assembling a squad of players for pre-season.
