Injuries

Recommended Posts

Watched with dismay the after game interview with Scott and hearing of season ending injuries to both Ruben and Johnny.

Is there any correlation between the high amount of injuries this season and our deteriorating playing surface?

I'm sure Ade does this regularly but as long as the pitch is brushed probably daily given the amount of use, it should keep the rubber crumb level up at the surface to maintain a good consistancy.

It’ll be interesting to see if we have substantially less injuries next year with the new Arbour Park surface in case it is related in some way to its current condition. But that would likely only be the case if the team were training on it as well as playing 23+ games on it.

Do the first team train on the pitch mid week, or is this the first season they’ve been training on a different surface due it being used for other activities / hired out? Just wondering if this and/or a different training regime with the new training facilities has had anything to do with the big increase in injuries we’ve seen?

Also made me wonder that if they’re not training on the pitch mid week as frequently, perhaps this is a reason why our home form has been so much worse this year? (i.e. they’re less at home on it, but on the flip side it could also be a reason why our away form has been better!).

Probably not helpful to randomly speculate and it’s likely just bad luck. But small changes can make a big difference physically and mentally.

They train at Arbour Park on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

The only time, as far as I know, that the players didn't train at AP was when the weather was bad and they went to an indoor training facility possibly at Reading's training ground.
