Aldershot Town

Recommended Posts

The Aldershot fans are convinced it's Scott so I think the inevitable is going to happen if they can sort out a compensation fee.

If so it's possible they'll leave it until after the game on Saturday.

I don't think it's anything to do with the club not backing Scott just the prospect of managing in the NL at a club he's close to.

Scott has disappeared from this forum whether that's just reading it or making a comment which I think tells you everything.

I have it from a solid source that Aldershot have put in a formal approach to the club for Scott.

It will be interesting to see how it develops from here if that’s correct:-

1. Do Aldershot have the funds to pay an acceptable compensation fee? Scott has two years remaining on his contract.

2. Will the Club try to entice him to stay? What would it require? A bigger salary, a more generous playing budget?

3. Will Aldershot & Scott want to take the risk? Scott is a young manager unproven at Step 1, and I doubt would be a free signing for Aldershot. And although I’m certain Scott would like the challenge there’s a significant risk moving to a club that have had 5 managers in the last 5 seasons.

I don’t blame him at all if he goes and in my opinion he’s been hung out to dry by the club, it’s a massive risk letting him go and one that will backfire spectacularly next season but the club will only have themselves to blame for not backing him enough financially.

Scott signed a two year contract knowing pretty much what the club would offer budget wise so I'd say there's no way he's been hung out to dry.

If I was Scott at that contract meeting, I’d be saying I’m not signing unless you give me a decent increase in budget. Then we’d see how much they value Scott.

1. I would hope the club hold out for the proper compensation for a two year contract .

2. I don't think the club could do anything salary or budget wise that would entice him to stay.

3. There's always a risk when you change clubs.

Aldershot have a lot of financial problems and a young manager who has proven he can work with and avoid relegation with a low budget will be a priority for them.

Perhaps it's as simple as at this present time the club cannot afford a bigger budget but with what's going on behind the scenes this will change in the future.

If Scott does go, I really hope the club are quick to appoint a manager who has experience at this level and not an untried step 3 or 4 manager.

I think Scott not being backed will have something to do with it, he’s not been allowed to push us on has he?

I get being sustainable but you have to speculate to accumulate, we’ve brought in numerous sponsors/partners in recent years, where is the money?

The question of what’s changed since the contract was signed needs to be considered.

I think he has, to me, he’s had to constantly come out and do the same interview for weeks and where is the support from higher up telling the fans what’s going on? It just seems to be Scott fronting up all the time. Let’s face it, we are no further forward on on the pitch since the takeover which was over 3 years ago, that says to me that money will not be pumped into the on pitch product but rather infrastructure which means the club is being readied for sale again. That’s a risky game because the product will probably be Step 3 in 12 months time, which means less attractive for sale, and the other risk? The money at Step 3 now means we’d be stuck there for years or relegated again.

Someone like Bobby Wilkinson would fit the bill 😏

God! If it’s him I wouldn’t bother. I said at the start of the season when Ryan Case was announced that he would replace Scott when he eventually moved on, and I still believe it will be Ryan Case. Perfect appointment if you don’t want to spend money on players and use the academy more, which was probably the end game all along.

I think Scott's remit would be to keep us in this division on a low budget for a couple of seasons whilst the club improve and build on it's infrastructure and it's ability to be self sustainable and profitable.

If the club eventually want to go full time the building blocks have to be in place for a full time sustainable model.

Agree, off the pitch activity does seem to have taken precedence over the playing side.

Having said that when Scott has asked for extra money during the season to improve the squad they have come up trumps.

It's been mentioned before if the clubs ambition is to go full time and challenge for promotion the infrastructure has to be in place to make this possible.

Ok, I get that but there are lot of grounds I’ve visited this season where the infrastructure isn’t there but those clubs plough that money into the playing budget, and to be honest, I’d prefer that.  It’s clear what is happening, the club is being readied for sale but the big risk now is we’ll be Step 3 rather than Step 2.

That seems to be the spin put out when Scott has needed to improve the squad but it’s probably still nowhere near what’s needed on regular basis. Also, it’s not like the extra money given to Scott has allowed him to bring in Step 2 players, the extra money has been used at risk because we’re too conservative.

If Ryan Case was to step into Scott's shoes today we'd be totally buggered.

Done a good job with the academy but managing at step 2 with a small budget is a different ball game.

No experience and no meaningful contacts, imo it would be a slippery slope and totally self defeatist if the club went down that route.

Wow, some major leaps going on here!

We’ve gone from speculation that Scott has been approached, to him definitely leaving, to the Club being sold, to who the new Manager is going to be, and being relegated next season….. and all in about 12 hours.

It feels a bit like having a cough and the family starting the planning of a funeral.

Do keep up! We’ve now merged with Langley FC and are called Slangley Warriors United playing in the Iver Premier League!
