Players staying and leaving

No news from us but as BFR has posted it looks like the first one out of the door to be announced very shortly will be Kiki to Aldershot.

I would put money on the following players leaving:

Edegbe, Gidaree, Dyce, Oshilaja, Greenidge, Clarke, Drakes-Thomas, Myers, Shakpoke, Walker

Staying:

Makumbi, Zabeli, Nelson, Roth, Ochieng, Goddard, Holness

No surprise on Kiki, was always going to leave IMO, regardless of Scott staying or going. Probably, IMO, the only player from this past season that could have any chance in the league above so no surprise the Scott has taken him with him. Much more development needed from him, but a prospect and fair play to him for making the step.

Greenidge I heard was retiring but if not I wouldn’t keep him as he’s too injury prone. Shakpoke is under contract so would command a fee. Walker i think is also going to Aldershot.

Shakpoke isn’t under contract, it was thought he was but he isn’t.

So now we know Kiki was offered an improved contract in January and turned it down.

Which defeats the objective of the club signing players from lower down and selling them on for a profit.

My view is Edegbe will be replaced in goal.

Greenidge we think is retiring but otherwise too injury prone to keep.

Apart from Walker I can't see any higher up clubs coming in for the others mentioned.

It’s obvious we couldn’t offer him enough or match his ambitions, same old same old.

Gidaree and Drakes-Thomas will go higher up, I bet Walker stays in our division.

Im not sure Walker has proven to provide enough out put yet for NL RR. Is a good player for us but for me will need another season (much like pretty much all the others).

I think many of these players saw what happened with Ogbonna etc and thought it was a 1 season move, but those players put in the yards with Slough to move up.

Not saying most won't leave, but I think they need more time at this level to prove themselves good enough.

Agreed, but they will all go on to other clubs on 2 or 3 times what Slough paid them.

The Club paid Welling a fee for Shakpoke….. they wouldn’t have done that if he wasn’t signing a contract.

I liken Walker to Ogbonna, he needs to improve his end product.

Hopefully he'll realise another season with us will be to his benefit.

I’m surprised it was that short a contract when the Club have paid a fee, but along with Gidaree, Myers & Drakes-Thomas he’s under 24, so he can only move for a fee, & fees for any of these moving hopefully would enhance the playing budget.

I thought the same thing last year with Slavi Spasov. Tbh I'm not really surprised that he seems to have fallen out of favour at Southend.
