Players staying and leaving

Recommended Posts

I didn’t think Slavi was ready for the move to Step 1 either, I was surprised Southend did, but what a great opportunity it was for him, a move to playing full-time football, and a considerably higher wage…. any of our squad would jump at the chance regardless of whether they might not be ready for it.

True.

I think we've had a few players take the leap and failed.

Dobbo springs to mind.

Slav was ready, he’s just not ever going to be a prolific goalscorer, absolutely brilliant at leading the line, partner him with someone like Makowski and it would be an absolute nightmare for defenders.

Kiki confirmed as leaving Slough. Aldershot announcement incoming

Scott has also signed up Nino Malaki from Enfield highly thought off by Enfield site and considered good NL material!

He's never going to be a prolific goalscorer if he spends half his time on the bench and the other half not even in the squad. According to Flashscores, he hasn't played a full 90 minutes since November.

Being a prolific goalscorer is not Slav’s game, Nathan. He’s more of a technically gifted forward than an out and out goal scorer. No matter how many games he plays, he will not get 20-25 league goals a season.

Sign of modern squad football with bigger benches. I'd be surprised if Slavi got a full 90 minutes in more than a quarter of his appearances at Slough

So now we know Kiki was offered an improved contract in January and turned it down.

Which defeats the objective of the club signing players from lower down and selling them on for a profit.

Not the only one apparently.

Sort of an expected retainer I guess and in all honesty he wasn’t going to have a load of clubs chasing him. But he has the experience which is important with the amount of youngsters we have.

Really hoping there may be a surprise or two with who stays.

Tbh I thought he was going with his captaincy at Enfield given that Kiki started.

Decent start to the re-signing / retained players. A senior and experienced pro is never a bad thing to have and we will need a few of those throughout the squad and a massive upside talented centreback who is developing with every game. Let's hope a few more commit to Slough for another season and then let's see what Alan has in store in the new players department.

With only two players confirmed so far, I suspect that the launch for 2026/27 memberships will be delayed. Club posted 0n 30 April that this was Coming Next Week, but no further word as yet.

Possibly a few more confirmed retentions today will see movement on membership launch

Not sure any retained players will get fans queuing for memberships especially as it’s unlikely we’ll keep any remaining top players. It’s more who we sign that may trigger some enthusiasm which I really hope we start to see from next week.

I'm expecting membership to be launched today but if players are 'thinking things over' i.e. listening to their agents and shopping around perhaps it will be delayed.

Not sure how long AJ should give the players before he'll need to start replacing them.
