How do we see this evening's interesting looking Second Qualifying Round tie between Eastern Counties League Division One South May & Baker Eastbrook Community and Harlow Town, there should hopefully be a decent attendance:

A groundhopper from another Forum was at the Recreation Ground:

FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round
New Bradwell St Peter (Step 6) 0 Moulton (Step 5) 1 (H/T 0-0) Att; c100
Admission: £9/£4.50, Programme: on line flip chart (see comments below), Pin Badge: £3.50

Decided to do this tie as it gave both an opportunity for a ground tick and also walk a small section of the Grand Union canal patch, that I had not done before. New Bradwell is situated just outside of Wolverton and I met up with my mate Malcolm at Euston to catch the 12.23 train to Wolverton. As it turned out the train was 20 mins late but no matter we arrived at Wolverton Station at 13.30, which left plenty of time to get to the ground. On arrival, the canal path was a short walk from the the station and we completed the walk to the ground in roughly 30 mins. The ground is a very basic Step 6 one. the pitch slopes noticeably from one end to the other. There is both a small seated stand and a covered standing area on one side and the opposite has a concrete building that hosts the changing room. All other spectator facilities are contained in a club house, shared with the cricket club, outside of the ground area. The ground is in quite a rural setting with a windmill in the background.
On arrival we were greeted by a friendly lady, who immediately apologised for the lack of seats in the stand and advised that unfortunately the stand had been recently vandalised but if anyone required a seat then folding seats were on hand and would be provided. She was also taking the gate money, selling the pin badges and providing a QR code on her phone for anyone who wished to access the match programme. The club did provide printed programmes up to last season but had incurred losses in doing so. The only snag, from my point of view, was that having accessed the programme, through the QR code, it kept disappearing from my phone when it went into standby mode so I gave up in the end, We retired to the club house and I enjoyed a pint before the match.
Turning to the match, the pitch was quite bumpy in places and there was a strong wind blowing up the slope. The conditions were not conducive to good football and the match was quite disappointing. In the opening 15 mins Moulton had 3 chances to take the lead but on each occasion were thwarted by NBSP's keeper, Even Tulomba, who kept the home side in the game. After the opening spell the hosts came more into to the game and did create a couple of chances, which they could not take, but in general the visitor's defence were in command at the back. The only goal of the game came on 57' when the visitor's Kobi Bivens shot from just outside the area, when kicking down the slope, and although the keeper managed to get his hands to the ball he could not prevent it from entering the net. After that the home team did manage to get the ball into the net with about 20' to go but the goal was ruled out for offside and the visitor's defence held firm. The match concluded at about 16.55.
On the way back we decided to get back to the station by taking a path that partly went along the site of a former rail branch line from Wolverton to Newport Pagnell and is now a footpath. Fortunately the path was well signposted. In doing so, we just made the 17.30 back to London and with favourable connections I finally arrived home in SE London shortly after 19.30.
