Bad career moves and big mistakes.

Recommended Posts

A little bit of fun to while away a boring evening at the office.

Poor career moves and big mistakes that have been made:

Che Stadhart - to Margit "I've gone to a bigger club"

Steve Portway - Should never have left us

Sacking Garry Aldous and replacing him with Weller.

Appointing Stan Harland as manager. Wasn't he crap!¬

Jacko leaving his spiritual home and instantly getting homesick.

Any other additions to the list are more than welcome.

Allowing Bullard to move to a Premiership outfit (albeit it for £30k)with no realistic chance of making it into the midfield of a side that already boasted Lampard, Foe, Carrick, Sinclair, Cole, Moncur, Lomas and Omoyinmi without so much as a sell-on clause....

Discuss.

Carruthers staying at Dover, preferring Dartford's level of football rather than Conference footy.

Spiller following the money to Chesham, ending up at Carruthers' level.

Phil Handford - Fleet to Margate...

I have to disagree about Jacko. He was with us for a long time, and never looked to move away, depsite obvious interest from certain clubs. Having already peaked as a player, it was his last chance really to move to a bigger club, and I don't blame him for doing so.

During last season he would have got to work with some great players (and staff), got to play in a different position (one which he prefers), and benefited from full-time training. If he does come back, I wouldn't be suprised if he's a better player than when he left.

Except that he didn't train full-time, spent half the season either injured or playing at Dover and ended up playing in a very poor side.

Regardless of what he may have thought when going, it certainly ranks as a big mistake at the end of the day.

Mark Bentley going to Daggers. Saying he wanted to go to a club that had ambition, that club then ending up lower than GNFC in the league.

Of course ambitious Mark moved long before they really fell from grace, to sit on the bench at Southend

Wilkins left because he wanted to play up front.

The club won't (and rightly so) be held to ransom by players demanding high wages hence no contract for Walshe.

Stadhart was never good enough.

I'm suprised none of the Tostao Kwashi "he's better than Pele" brigade haven't mentioned him leaving being a mistake, still want him back lads?

It seems to me, that with Ben walshe on loan from a division2 side pushing for a place in division1(now have it) that he is going to hang on and hope to get a contract from them. Yes he enjoyed his time here but as nice, and as comitted as he may have seemed i can't see him dropping the chance of Div 1 football. With this in mind, and the fact that he may not have taken a large drop in wage i think Andy has been realistic in not offering him a contract, but look for suitable replacements.

But I thought that QPR have released him ?

I am sure that Ben is looking for full time footie, and would not want to drop straight down to part time, and will use the summer touting around a few clubs. And I for one wish him luck, as he put in some good performances for us.

But not offering Ben a contract must mean that Andy and gang have others lined up in what may be a more realistic wage scale, well I hope so.

Yes Walshe was released from QPR. But ben said in the gravesend reporter that he wanted to stay at the fleet, and like it has been said before no money was offered so it's just that Andy did not want him!! Any way good luck walshe.

Unless Andy has someone lined up who's as good as or better than Walshie and on a lower budget (no not Jacko!) I would pay a few quid more to keep him. We know what Ben's capable of on the pitch, he's a good squad/team player and a true professional. Best o'luck Walshie.
