A Dover fans view from last nights game

First of all well done on your result last night. We lost 2-0 but it could of quite easily of been double that! Its my view that we were completely outplayed in every department. In Trott and MsSweeny you have two excellent centre backs, and your front two are pretty handy to.

I said on our forum yesterday that I was afriad that last nights game may of come a month early, and that is what was proved.

We were without our main 5 players. We had last years top scorer missing, our main play maker, our top two centre halves, and our keeper, who is without doubt the best in the league. Our team was made up of, almost exclusively of our reserve team from last year, and it did show.

We beat Slough at the weekend quite comfortably, and that was clearly a false dawn. Certainly our kids have alot of growing up to do, but thankfully we wont have to play teams of your calibre every week.

Hopefully by the time we play you next, we will be approaching a full strength team.

A lesson learned from our performance last season is that any team competing to be successful at any level requires a depth of talent al la Canvey Island (and that comment sticks in my throat). This obviously provides cover for injuries and suspensions... This season we have got quality players in all departments and quality players on the bench and in support that, when given a chance, have the attitude to grasp the chance and try to establish themselves in the first team. From what I saw last night and from what you say, I would be concerned as it is obvious you haven't the depth of squad to challenge. We found that last season and it is a hard lesson to learn for club and supporters alike.
