The World Cup

Recommended Posts

I feel very positive about Englands' chances - even though there are question marks over the fittness of key players.

With my Hudders hat on (Yes, I will wear it during England and Ireland games), I'm hoping for positive relief and healing from what turn out to be a dissapointing season in Division Two.

How do you guys see things after a brilliant season for the Mighty Fleet?

BB , glad to see that you're staying with the stalwarts during the close season , and have your Northfleet avator by your name .

Yes , us Fleet fans have entered the non league forum with at least one new word , and even Reevsie has found his avator .

I reckon Argentina or Italy will do well in the World Cup as they both have enormous potential to go from a slow pace to a quick tempo around the last third ( as we coaches say ! ) and will be OK in the heat .

Thinking about the big guns I expect Brazil will do well as well .

Down here we're watching for the flop of the Saints season , Augustin Delgado and his cousin Kleber Chala playing for Ecuador , and of course an ex Winchester City JFC player , Bridgey .

Well, I hope tonights Under 21 game isnt a portent of the Senior Sides efforts.

Exciting game, certainly not short on skill from both sides , but unfortunately Italy won 2-1.

Still think we'll get through to the next round though, as we should be capable of beating Portugal.

Thought Alan Smith had another good game - one challenge you might have thought slightly iffy, but good honest effort the rest of the time.

3 cracking goals as well, although the English defence might have thought they should have prevented both goals.

Obviously everone hopes England do well but given past experience I expect Italy and France to be there at the end.

I always think that once England are knocked out , after the brief period of national morning and blaming the ref, Argentina and any passing faith healers, that's the time to get the beers out and really enjoy the footie with no pressure on.

I actually thought that we had a great chance when I heard that Gary Neville was not going (due to injury a la Beckham).

However, we've got another defensive clown in the shape of Wes Brown - totally pathetic in today's pointless friendly against South Korea.

Hate to say it but I think it's Argentina's cup this time round.

Ah, but Danny Mills is there, which should at least guarantee some two-footed sliding tackles, needless lunges in the penalty area and a red card or two. Much more fun than actually winning the tournament.

PS. Daz, I see from your profile we share the same birthday! I get choice of presents, however, as I'm a year older by the looks of things.

Well I might have mentioned a couple of times I'm off to Japan on the 31st.

I've got tickets to the three group games and whatever the result it will be a trip of a lifetime. Well mine at least.

For the duration I shall sport the St George Atavar.

I really think that Englands chances are close to call. There has been a great deal of banal reporting in the press and todays result will certainly not help.

The one thing I do know is in each world cup there is always a surprise and unfancied team which breaks through to challenge. Why not England ?

I hope that I shall be able to post messages from Japan to this site while Im out there.

Yep... Im taking a big one.. ooer.

You've probably seen it in the back of the coach to Huddersfield and at the match, the reason I dont take it to many Fleet matches is because its never seen us win!!!

Im not superstitious. much!!!!

However England IS different you keep an eye out.

Talking of flags - did anyone else see the big Stalybridge flag yesterday?

I'm pretty sure it was the same one that they brought to our game - fame at last!

Do you think that Big Mick has taken a leaf out of Fordy's book then?.....

You know, "We don't have big time Charlies at our club!"

Lets face it, Keano doesn't come much bigger and I bet theres not much chance of there being a bigger Charlie than him!!

What a plonker!!!

Bye the way, good luck out there in The Far East, Dave M.!!

Indeed - as soon as Keano's United wages were elevated to 50 grand a week, he as acted as though he's actually the manager of both United and the Republic, trying to take control of affairs.

I wholeheartedly support Mick McCarthy's response - Keano deserved it. It's just such a shame that it had to be his most prized player who mouthed off at him.

I really can't see what all the fuss is all about. I mean, even with an entire squad made up of Keano's, the Republic wouldn't stand a chance of winning the World Cup.

If I was having a bet on the outcome I'd have to go for Italy, the climate will suit them, the longer grass (probably causing all these joint injuries) will not affect them so much, and it appears they are just building up to a climax as the competition nears. Whether they peak to early as they have at past world cups remains to be seen.
