Gills in Northfleet saga

Once again the reporter reports this rubbish, that paper well it is not a Gravesend paper anymore is it, as i have said on here before this project if it comes off has to be 5-6 years away and so much can and will happen in that time, the majority of Gills fans i know several from Gravesend are dead set against a move to Gravesend, and they have yet to make their objections known, the Gills struggle to fill priestfield only 6500 odd against Leicester recently, and in the local Medway news (which only reports on Medway i am pleased to say)they have an article where if you purchased £20 in the club megastore today(Friday) you will be entitled to two free tickets in the Brian Moore Stand for Sundays game against Sheffield United, in addition to this offer, full paying adults can also purchase tickets for children for a quid, the game is also on sky on sunday which will also reduce the game, as for the ground it's ok, the facilities are fine, if you have a chance to attend the blues rock cafe or the function rooms they are excellent, Gills need to stay in Medway and i am sure that is where they will stay, Scally will find that there will be a lot of objection in Medway to the move and god forbid if they did go down the crowd will reduce even further, which will make a mockery of a huge stadium, anyway this is not about football or supporters it is about making money, Gravesham Council should be ashamed of itself, support your own team you may find out that they are going somewhere.

A punctuation masterclass <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

P.S. Gary, the Distorter isn't Charles' sole 'employer', as he is freelance of course (hence his work for Radio Moscow and the NLP). However, point taken about the Distorter's sloppy reporting - as further demonstrated by this paragraph on page three of this week's paper:

'However, Gravesend and Northfleet FC should not fear any backlash or decrease in support if the move becomes a reality because true die-hard fans never desert a club no matter how big or small.'

To be honest, we'd be rather naive if we believed this - how many of our recent home support of approximately 1200 could really be described as die-hards? Also, the move would make it even harder for us to attract new fans on top of what we already have.

This article, by Michael Atkins, seems to demonstrate that he doesn't really know what he is talking about, shown by his claim that with Fleet 'currently positioned fourth in the Conference with a game in hand they are clearly the team to fear.' 'The team to fear' is a bit unrealistic, given Carlisle's recent devastating form, to name just one example. But then I suspect most of us know not to believe everything (or, indeed, much at all) that we read in this publication.

But surely because there is always at least this many they are die hards? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I think the point J.C. was making is that we have only recently started getting gates of this size.
Where were the 1200 die hards three years ago when we were lucky to get 600? or six years ago when it was closer to 400?

I think that the growth in our support, however modest is sustainable and the new fans that we have attracted in the last couple of years are here to stay. Mabye not die hards but then we can't all have supported the club for forty years ( I have, and at times it hasen't been much fun). If we continue to play well and get results we WILL get 2000+ soon for every home game

Apart from 2 years in the Alliance, 2 Portway years, a 3rd round cup game at Villa and 8 years with Fordy, it has been pretty turgid.
gone are the days we would draw 0-0 with Corby or Merthyr in front of crowds of 250.
I NEVER, EVER want to see a return to THOSE dark <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif" alt="" /> days!!!

Sorry jc about my punctuation i personally dont give a toss about it, the sad issue about all this is that money talks and money will win, if Gills [****!!****] up and go down it will not take off, i dont think this area could support two league teams, Gills are struggling and Fleet have only just started to raise the gate, if we lose the next three to four games our crowd will drop back to the 1200 mark if we went down we would be back to 700-800, as a Fleet and Gills fan of over 40 years i have seen it all before.
As for the repoter must be the worst local newspaper in Kent, thank god i never buy it i just read the back page in Tesco or Safeway.

So thats you? I wondered who it was. And whats all this about not die hard fans unless we've been here for forty years how long do you have to have been going to watch the Fleet to be recognised as a die hard fan?

Gills lost 3-1 at home, second-bottom. If that's what it takes to send Scally buggering off back down the A2 with his tail between his legs, then all I can say is "more of the same please Hessenthaler!"

Don't think i said anything about die hard fans if that is aimed at me, i said gates would drop back to 700-800 if we went down, perhaps we should say how many will stay if we were unfortunate to go back down, a die hard fan does not take 40 years 70 years or whatever, it is a fan who stays with the club from top to bottom and back again and if you look at our gates seven or eight years ago they were 400-500 and thats where it stayed, as we climbed the league the gates went up.
Anyway enough of this trash if you are in Tesco's Strood on a Friday we can read the back page together and even better still we can read the non league paper and preview the Halifax game.
And also don't make me give long answers as jc has a go about my punctuation.

Note the crowd was only approx 6,900.........hmmmmmmm....not even enough to fill a casino Mr Scally !!

God didn't make the Medway by accident....stay over your side Mr S !!!

Cheers,

Sorry no this was not aimed at you I read something else on here about some guy had been going for fourty years and only if you have been going this long are you a die hard fan.

Unless I'm reading it wrong. Perhaps he was saying was has been watchingus for fourty years which means he is a die hard fan but you don't need to be watching the Fleet for this long to be Die hard.

Oh well im off to pick holes out of mepis's punctuation and spelling
