Three months off-line

Three months off-line and nothing much has changed, has it. We've still got the knob heads calling for Andy to step down along with the pro-player and anti-player comments. It's all a load of regurgitated [****!!****], isn't it. With the exception of info on new players arriving and others leaving or injuries and availabilty nothing has changed. So, adding my dollop of sh!te to the heap, here are my views on what's gone wrong.

Andy Ford is probably the best manager Gravesend and Northfleet Football Club has ever had. Yes, he can be distant and aloof, but maybe his mind is more on what he can do to improve the team, than on being everyones best mate and letting us know what his plans are.

Yes, I've heard the stories of how he has allegedly ignored good squad members for weeks on end, who haven't fitted exactly into his scheme of things. Although we as supporters have our favourites, it's part of a managers job to tinker and adjust whether we like it or not. Players, especially as part-timers, can't always make every game. Work commitments take prescident.

Yes, he has made some unusual decisions; Charlie Mitten in goal away to Barnet, stands out. My own thoughts were, if you had a reserve player who was begging to get a first team game and you knew you were up against opposition who you were fairly certain you couldn't beat, then why not kill two birds with one stone. Give that reserve player his start and get whatever you could out of the game.

I believe we caught a lot of teams out early on in the season, including ourselves. We hit the ground running. While other teams took time to get into their stride, we did it almost straight away, hence our glorious start. Now things have leveled off, injuries and lack of fitness have caught up with us. Hopefully we can do what we did last season and go on an unbeaten run to the end of the season. The play-offs would be nice and a useful source of revenue, but a top ten finish would still be an improvement on last season. In fact in the few seasons I've been a 'Fleet' supporter (99/2000), we've always improved on our previous seasons position.

If Andy couldn't do his job he'd be the first to admit it. When that day comes, and it will, he'd step down rather than be sacked.
