As well as having the greatest president in their history whom has a wonderful track record with reagrds to human rights <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> , our inbred hick redneck cousins across the pond provide us with multitudes of inadvertant comedy thanks to their frivolous lawsuit laws...

Fear Factor' sued for rat-eating episode

Viewer contends show caused him 'injury and great pain'

CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) -- A viewer is suing NBC for $2.5 million, contending that he threw up because of a "Fear Factor" episode in which contestants ate rats mixed in a blender.

Austin Aitken told The Associated Press he watches "Fear Factor" often and had no problem with past installments where the reality show's participants ate worms and insects in pursuit of a $50,000 prize -- but eating rats went "too far."

"It's barbaric, some of the things they ask these individuals to do," Aitken said Thursday.

Aitken's handwritten lawsuit contends the rat-eating made his blood pressure rise, resulting in being dizzy and lightheaded -- and vomiting. Because he was disoriented he ran into a doorway, "causing suffering, injury and great pain."

Asked why he didn't shut off his television before the rat-eating segment, Aitken said he couldn't do it quick enough.

NBC responded with a brief statement: "We believe that the claim is completely without merit."

Aitken, a 49-year-old part-time paralegal, said he wants to send a message to NBC and other networks with the lawsuit. He said he isn't concerned with winning a cash judgment in court.

"I just put any figure. You really think I expect to get $2.5 million?" he said.

Couldn't the fat lard bucket find his remote bloody control? This coupled with the 'Randy Moss Incident' - when the aforementioned Moss pantomimed pulling his pants down and mooning the Green Bay crowd which was codemned by Fox commentator Joe Buck as, and I quote, "the most disgusting act I have ever seen" - and Janet Jackson's incident at the Superbowl where supposedly normal Americans were thinking of suing the CBS Network for 'mental suffering' leads me to believe there are far worse things than George W. Bush in America. Like Americans.

A bit like the 8000 complaints to the BBC about a programme (Jerry Springer Opera) that hadn't even been aired at the time! It's not the people who are daft, they just like a whinge, and if you can make some money on a claim then why not? Same with the commentator, I don't believe he found it shocking at all, more like he's hearing the producer in his headphones telling him to condemn this Randy Moss guy- How many times do you see this sort of moral toss in The Sun or The Mirror- or on the BBC- it's there every day.

Blame the messenger and give them both barrels.

I happened to watch 'Jerry Springer, The Opera' , and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm not an opera 'buff', but this rather avent garde show was brilliant.

I must teach the whingers where the ON/OFF switch is on their T.V.

Apparently there were some 1300 phone calls praising the show - also an unprecedented figure!

Some bible basher popped up saying that if the Sikhs can get a show stopped by throwing a few stones, so can they. When challenged on TV he backtracked a bit and said he wnats loads of people to out and protest by praying and singing hymns. I think I'd rather risk the stones..

Remember Life of Brian......

If "Jerry Springer, The Opera" is truly annoying God so much ~ surely He will visit upon the show the full might of His wrath ?

In which case, all the enraged Christians without "Off" buttons should just sit back, relax and watch the fireworks !

"Sodom & Gomorrah - the soap" on the other channel, anyone ???

Heard today on The News that the show is to close.

Religious police strike again ? It's all Bollox !

I thought David Souls was brilliant as Springer !

Why is it closing?

Is it because of the furore it caused or because the show is going to close anyway, maybe to go on tour or something?

I only ask because Cats was the most succesful London show of all time, and that closed. And not one single pussy protested to get it closed.

... Probably coz the 'rag-heads' complained there weren't enough blasphemous references to the Moslems !

I see that U.S. army sergeant has been jailed for 10 years for 'abusing' rag-heads in Iraq !

Slightly more worrying, I heard yesterday that it's JUST POSSIBLE photo's of OUR OWN troops doing the same thing in Basra are possibly about to emerge.

Going back to the post that started this thread...have they not heard of court fees in America? One of the ways to prevent frivilous claims is to make Claimants pay a fee when they commence proceedings. A claim of that magnitude would result in a £1,700.00 in England and Wales which you would only recover if you won your case. A huge risk when you are running a faintly ridiculous claim.
