What? Jim "NO!" Chandler not in goal? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Personally I would have Dave Allen and Kevin Riley in the starting line-up straight away. And probably Brad Brotherton (as a midfielder rather than a defender). The trouble is I could pick a team of midfielders and then wonder why we don't score enough goals!

I would also have Daniel Clarke in there on the grounds that he hit the back of the net so many times and still managed to get a shed load of assists for other players' goals. I know his commitment to the club could sometimes be faulted, but he still scored all those goals and made so many others.

I would also want to find a space for Paul Turner because he and Rids were so influential when we won the league. And I can't help feeling Russell Penn will surely be in there at some point in the future.

The problem with this sort of thing is that you start looking for the best ever players while we have a really good team at the moment, and you could forget just how good some of the earlier players were. Yes, I know, that is always the same whatever club you follow, and the longer the club has been going the more diverse the various XIs will be. I, for instance, would always start a best ever Enfield team with Micky O'Sullivan and Keith Searle. I know Tony Jennings, Noel Ashford and Steve King would be in there as well but I would always start with those two. Others would pick players from before my time as an Es supporter and others would pick players from a later period who I don't think could hold a candle to either Sully or Searle. But that's what opinions are all about and we are not going to be able to pick a best ever Enfield Town team even now because we've already had too many good players to just pick eleven of them. And especially not the ten that this thread started with.

Cyclops your teasing me arnt you?!

Thought hard about Dave Allen, like his attacking play alot, just misses out to Matty on form this season.
Bradley would be nowhere near my defence, a brilliant attacking midfielder feel we have missed him this season at times.

Paul Turner & Russell Penn good shout, Penn if he stays would be in there just not played enough yet.
Turner a hero for EFC just felt never hit top gear with the Town.

I would have both Allen and Negus and play them the same way they have this season. The thing about Paul Turner is that he lent valuable experience to the side, as did Rids, and I am sure that was one of the reasons we won the league. Having once played in the same side as an ex-Southern Leaguer with no knees who knew exactly where everyone on his side should be, I can appreciate that kind of player, especially when you do what he tells you to and end up with a medal you never expected to get!

I'm still shocked you left Kevin Riley out (especially after you championed him loud and long in the past). OK, he hasn't done as much this season as we might have hoped for, but that has been because of injury. Over the time he has been with the club he has been a brilliant clubman and shown great ability as well.

if you wanted to put daniel clarke in , who would u pair him with ? he wasnt on the same wave length as billy cove , so to have clarke u would have to leave out cove ? . in my opinion cove is in the top 5 players to have played for us , he scored goals made goals and gave us all a laugh too , a top player and a top bloke , i cant say the same about clarky , can anyone ??
