Enfield Debate

As a town fan I think the time has come for both clubs to become 1.

It makes sense as it would bring with it increased attendances, awareness in the community and also apply extra pressure for a new purpose built stadium in Enfield.

The purpose of a new club was becasue of the criminal running of the old one, and lack of a ground. These problems have been overcome now so their is no need for two clubs and if they were to merge who looses out?.

Lets unite and put Enfield back on the Football map, where they belong

No it's not and you know it ain't. Why didn't you log-in as your proper name to say that?

If you want to watch EFC you know where to go. If you want to watch EFC in the 'borough' then you'll have to wait until we move back, however long it takes.

And why would the original enfield want to join forces with a bunch of fools who they were probably glad to be shot of anyway.

So is the reason that football cannot flurish in Enfield is no longer the fault of a money motivated man, but by fans who are too bothered arguing between themselves than supporting their local team.

There are enough glory supporters who turn their back on Enfield/Town, and thats increasing by the day with youngsters no longer appriciating their local team and following Chelski. THIS HAS TO CHANGE!.

Lets not let the fans be the reason that football in Enfield is not succsessful let it become a uniting factor amongest its residents.

If you shout loud enough it will happen, both clubs know the true power that fans hold.

Unfortunatly,i reckon about 70% of fans on both sides do not want a merger.

I am one of the few Town supporters that would be willing to consider talks,at least.

I would accept Enfield Town to merge into EFC again IF EFC agreed to play at our current ground in Enfield, and EFC took Town's Management team and the boardroom.(don't forget they would be gaining a ground in Enfield and 350 supporters)The players from both sides could be available for selection.

I would then be willing for ETFC to cease to exist and we could all be watching a united Enfield football club again.

Those are the only terms i would consider. Many other Town fans would not even concider that, and i'm sure most EFC fans wouldn't either.SO it ain't going to happen.Saying that.If everyone did agree that senario,it think it would be the best outcome for football in Enfield.

EFC are doing well at the moment and talk about plans for a new ground in the future.Until both those situations change, i can't see even any possibility of talks, and by that time it will be to late.

Im with LS on this, im one of I reckon 80% of Town fans that are ex EFC fans (I say ex EFC though I still look for their results & wish them well) and would love to see a merger, it could & would work if the right people would let it!

I would like to add to the debate on yes or no to a merger. There should be no reason why both teams cannot survive and flourish. At one time I thought that it would be best for a merger but I am now thinking that it is good for the borough to have two teams. It will create a good spirit (not the alcholic kind though) with the supporters of both clubs and within the borough itself.

The one area where both clubs could work together is the one about the ground. It may be a combined effort will get that elusive replacement ground. We all know that if we want to progress up the ladder a ground of at least league 2 is what we would need. Both clubs could then share the ground.

An all seater stadium of the size of Six Fields Stadium, Northampton is what is needed. Let the local derbies commence but let's work together to get that ground. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/chat.gif" alt="" />

another first?

I tend to agree, my understanding is that most supporters are happy with what their respective clubs are doing (that's why they are supporters, otherwise they would go somewhere else)so let's just concentrate on making sure our respective clubs, play some good football and continue to progress.

(and btw before the smarty pants comments this is a personal view, ok)

There is no way I'd accept those terms, our committee have done an amazing job just keeping the club going, in fact I'd say they'd done a better job than your directors given the circumstances. At least they didn't run away from the problems we faced. Why would we want to go back to the people who nearly destroyed our club? And don't forget Chandler was sacked from Enfield, because he couldn't do the job first time around. Why would it be any different now?

I left EFC, though I went to the matches, when we played at St Albans. I got to the ground early for once and went into the bar. There were no Enfield fans in the club house and I looked around and all I could see was St Albans memorobilia. There was no honours board for efc or the international players who had played for the club. No photographs of EFC at Wembley etc and I realised that it was not my club any more.

For the next few years I went to the matches out of habit. I could not get enthusiastic about the dross that was dished up. Players were there as mercenaries and the management did not seem to know what to do about the club. After Laz went I tried to give it a go by going to Wood Green and seeing the FA cup game but I realised that I was just being shafted by the same people.

I go to Brimsdown and whilst there are few items of memorobilia in the club house we are getting there and the bar staff do wear my club badge. it is clear that the ground may be onwed by Brimsdown but it belongs to our club as tenants. I feel at home and therefore this is my club. 2-3 years ago I would have advocated a merger and know that the Town sought to initiate talks. Well EFC did not want to know and MKJames illustrates the small minded attitude of the New Enfield.

I dont think that EFC will ever capture the spirit of the old Enfield as it had such noteables as Len Rust, Alan Young, Alan Diment and Roy Butler on the board and the current crew are a bunch of nonentities. George Ludford was as good a groundsman as Roy today.

A football club is its supporters and you betray your supporters at your peril. At this time I couldn't give a tinker's cuss for the crew left behind at Ware and as for the comment that "Chandler was sacked from Enfield because he couldn't do the job first time around". What a crass statement when was the last time that EFC were promoted as champions? How many honours have EFC won in the last few years.

EFC is dead but doesn't know it long live ETFC!

MKJames I dont like you, I have never seen a constructive post from you and personally I think that you should crawl into a hole with your fellow hangers on. Yes there were glory days at EFC but with your narrow attitude I just dont think that they will return.

When Jim Chandler was manager we played some lovely football, brought some good young players through, went on a great FA Cup run. I appreciate all those things. However, I felt we didn't do enough in the league, which ultimately is what matters. Jim had some fantastic players at his disposal, and I honestly felt we should have been top half, not struggling to avoid relegation.

Also I believe our board have done an outstanding job, not only keeping EFC afloat, but finding the money to bring in some name players. It's no secret we're not loaded, so yes I do believe that if there was to be a merger representatives of our club should be on board.

In my opinion it's not about glory or living in the past, but supporting your club through thick and thin, and whatever happens, I will always be an Enfield FC supporter first. Only if we go bust and fail to reform will I think of going somewhere else.

MK.I strongly disagree with your comments on Jim Chandler. He produced excellent cup results.0-0 away to David Moyes's Preston.2-1 against Chesterfield away..etc.AND he managed to keep EFC in the Ryman premier after Laz totally stripped him of any money.Laz wanted us to go down to save costs,Chandler against the odds managed to keep us up.So he was sacked and Tom Loizou was brought in to ensure we went down.

Regarding you rejection of my suggestion.EFC's current chairman and vice chairman could easily be accommodatad into the new boardroom set up(but it would have to be a supporter run club..ie.No one person could controll the club),plus you would get a ready made home in Enfield until we find ourselves a permanent home.A massive increase in attendances, and the fact that ETFC would have made the ultimate sacrifice by disolving our beloved club.I think that suggestion is more than far.

Lets see if that offer suddenly seems more attractive at the END of the season ?

Even at present ,i feel that EFC need a merger more than ETFC do.If you want to spend another 5 years dreaming of a site becoming available in enfield, just as you've spent the last 7 years dreaming about it,you go ahead.Laz had numerous plans on the table,in order to appease the fans.lets hope the same things not happening now.Lets make one thing clear. It only has a chance of happening whilst both teams are in the same 'step' of non league football, and who knows how long that will last.

PS..I feel that those who kept EFC going after the split have harmed its long term future. It would have been a quick ceasing of trading and then an immediate rebirth, with Enfield Town very quickly become Enfield Fooball club again. In the same way Aldershot1995 immediatly became Aldershot Fc again.

It is clear to me that a merger of EFC and ETFC would be the best way for the Borough of Enfield to have a strong football club that could push up the leagues and make a strong case to the council for some land for a new ground.

It is also clear to me that the merger will never happen as, from reading some of the hostile comments on this forum, there is obviously too much bad feeling from people connected to both clubs.

Think of the benefits of a merger:

Pooled financial resources of the two clubs

A stronger squad

Better attendances ( it is said that many people who used to support EFC would come back if the fighting between elements of the two clubs stopped and a merger took place)

Playing at Brimsdown with a much stronger case to make to the council for a new ground.

Such a pity that all these positive aspects of a merger will probably never happen. Do we have to dwell on the past? The split of ETFC from EFC has obviously caused much bad feeling. I see comments laying the blame for what happened in the past on both sides. Is it not time to look forward and progress? Or shall we stayed bogged down in this mire?
