Welling v Charlton

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else think that we have a weak set of pre-season friendlies? To only get 2 home friendlies isnt going to boost the coffers. The one that interests me the most is the Colchester friendly as we're at least pitching ourselves against a team we can benchmark ourselves against even though they're in a higher league. Folkestone, Lymington, Waltham Forest, Hastings are all very uninspiring mediocre opposition.

Without knowing the ins and outs of getting pre-season friendlies, it's difficult to judge... but ours are generally disappointing, and the crowds even more so as a result. Obviously, Welling have some kind of deal with Charlton over groundshare issues and so maybe stipulate whether a strong squad is fielded, but they've also pulled in some fairly attractive pre-seasons over the past few years. The last decent side I recall coming to Northfleet was an Arsenal XI in 1990 that included David O'Leary and Eddie McGoldrick (heh heh, what a 'star'!), but even that wasn't what you'd call a strong side.

In other ex-Fleet player movements, Mark Munday's joined Ramsgate from Folkestone - so it seems we won't be facing him tomorrow, sadly.
