Development company and wealdstone working to knock down Edgware Ground

Recommended Posts

Wealdstone have had the buidling of the new ground, which is about a ten minute walk from Edgware stopped as they have run out of money. They shared our ground for nine years, but they 'suddenly' left this summer to share with Northwood.

It now turns out that that wealdstone chariman was at the meeting that took place on Saturday and that the bottom line is the council hope that sale of Edgware's ground will help to fiance the completion of Wealdstone's ground.

This is a disgrace as clearly wealdstone are working with the develpmont company, as they are a much bigger club then Edgware with a decent size fanbase.

Here is a new press release,

EDGWARE TOWN PRESS RELEASE 2

Proposed plans and a model of the development at the White Lion were on view at Flash Musicals, Methuen Road on Saturday morning 15th October. Apart from Mr Ryzner, the landlords consultant, Mr Nick Symmons, Wealdstone chairman, was also present in what appeared to be an 'official' capacity and he confirmed that the landlord of the White Lion Ground was to fund the next stage of the Prince Edward site.

Many Edgware Town supporters were in evidence and every resident that visited the viewing signed the petition being organised against the development, some even took forms away for their neighbours to sign. Edgware Town 1 - Developers 0.

Mr Keith Burchell, local councillor for planning, development and housing confirmed that the Prince Edward ground was costing the council a great deal of money to maintain and they are keen to see it finished. YOU MUST ASK YOURSELF WHY THAT SHOULD BE AT THE EXPENSE OF EDGWARE TOWN AND THE WHITE LION GROUND

Dont think it matters to Edgware about the ground share Tom. The point is why should edgware leave their home of many years just because it suits wealdstone. I was pleased to see wealdstone were getting a new ground but this just isn't morally right. It looks a bit odd that edgware gave wealdstone a home for 9 years only to have wealdstone act like this .I agree with Mr Happy it beggars belief.

I don't think I'd call the Cordice brothers rough (well certainly not Alan). Not compared with Dennis Byatt, Paul Bowgett, Vinnie Jones, Stuart Pearce, Doug McClure (and no doubt plenty of lesser goons whose names escape me right now).

As for the Edgware situation, surely they have some protection under their lease and can't just be forced out. Obviously leaving the White Lion would be a wrench but le's be honest: it's needed a lot of work to be done for an awful long time and has been slowly disintegrating since I first went there.

Of course you need to fight the proposals but you also need to secure a fall-back position in the event that you don't succeed. Sharing the new ground seems the obvious solution. The big drawback though is that you (presumably) become Wealdstone's tenants.

I got chucked out at wealdstone by a copper .It wasn't my fault dave flint equalised in the 90th min. It wasn't my fault some fat ginger haired gorllla in a boiler suit decided I needed a slap ,It wasn't my fault two or three others jumped in as well. And it wasn't my fault I got a black eye . Wealdstone are about 7th on my list of hated clubs.

Ah.. Those away trips to Wealdstone in the 80's.Remember the Trophy semi-final second leg? What a pleasant charming atmosphere. It was just a toss up who was going to have a pop at your first, the Coppers or Wealdstones Psycho fans.Heady days. The phrase 'running the guantlet' was made for away days at the Stone.

My fondest memory of a game against Wealdstone.

Middlesex senior cup final in the sixties. We were 2-0 down at Lower Mead and they came out - "we'll be running round Enfield with the cup". My response was "You'll be running round Enfield with your tail between your legs".

Second leg at Southbury Road at half=time it was still 0-0 and I was at the back of the stand opposit the main stand with some school friends and being bored silly. Second half we scored 3 goals in double quick time midway through the half. It was tremendous and boy were they quiet after that.

The Middlesex Senior Cup is one of the most attractive trophys in football.

Yes and no-we managed to delay Laz, LBE & Laing but they weren't really in a great hurry. The need to inject money into a part constructed site is a whole different ball game-abandoned or determined construction contracts, expired warranties, insurances, etc. are all a nightmare. And this is not a good time of year to stop working outside.
