Another win but not a great performance. Andrew Martin scored the goal after 10 minutes lobbing the advancing keeper from a Nick Lowery through ball. 7 minutes later Danny Cowley had a shot scooped off the line by the home keeper and then Nick Lowery's header was swatted over the bar from the resulting corner. Barton missed a great chance to level the score in the 25th minute but then we lost Mark Risley through injury on the half hour to be replaced by Rob Piller. Just before the interval the home keeper made another great save from a powerful Martin shot from 15 yards.

 

Early in the second half Paul Wood made a great save on the line from a Paul Donnelly header and John Bates beat the keeper with a powerful header from 6 yards only to see it cannon back off the bar. We were awarded a penalty on 66 minutes when Andrew Martin was pushed in the area but Steve Jones blasted the ball against the bar. Jones nearly increased our lead with 10 minutes to go when he shot across the goal and wide from a Martin lay-off. Barton had much of the possession in the second half but our defence held firm despite the absence of Kevin Jopson, Kevin Marsden and then Mark Risley.
