Middlesex Wanderers

The club has nominated seven players for potential selection for the Middlesex Wanderers' May tour to Botswana, according to this week's Messenger. They are:

 

Aaron Kerr, Ross Smith, James Smith, Andy Drury, Luke Moore, Scott Gooding and Danny Slatter.

Sorry for being ignorant but what exactly are the 'Middlesex Wanderers'? I know we send some players off for it each year but why?

A bit like what rhe MCC is to cricket, thw MW are a touring non league representative side, going to far off paces.

I have to wonder what criteria Mdx Wanderers use in the choice of the country they visit each summer. Botswana are currently facing intense international condemnation from human rights groups of their Government's near genocidal policies towards the rights of the indiginous Bushmen population. Presumably they wouldn't chose to go to Zimbabwe because of their human rights record. Botswana is no different. Football players and fans should not ignore injustice simply by pretending that sport should not be political. Botswana's racism is as bad as it gets! Our players who have been put forward as available for selection ought to know the facts before agreeing to go.
