The FA Cup

Recommended Posts

I've had a great deal to be thankful for in 2001/2 season when lady luck delt the FA Cup 1st Round draw, 'Huddersfield Town v Gravesend & Northfleet'. Indeed, had it not been for that act of fate I would never have become a follower of the Mighty Fleet.

I know the eventual outcome still pains of lot of Fleet fans and rightly so, as they surely deserved at least a replay (if not a famous victory) but I can look back with great joy. I found another team to follow, something which I never imagined in my wildest dreams I would do prior to that day and I also found that my judgement to spot of a football club 'on the rise' was accurate and true!

Good luck today lads n lasses. If I had just one last FA Cup wish it would be for Fleet to draw the Terriers but this time at Stonebridge Road! However, if things continue as they are a league meeting is not beyond the realms of possibility.

It'd provide a tough dilemma though, surely (i.e. ultimately having preference for a Terriers victory, and hence a Fleet exit)?

Can we avoid Huddersfield if we get through, as IMO Huddersfield's results indicate an upturn in form.....

we'll meet you in the final. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/angel.gif" alt="" />

Huddersfield away brings back great memories and a great day out apart from the result of course. A few beers before and after the game in the Gaslight club I think it was called? Very friendly bunch of supporters and since that game, have always kept an eye out for their results.

Sadly my dream fixture is on hold for another season. I think the place you probably drank at near our ground was 'The Gas Club' right on Gasworks Street right next to the massive gas holder. A grand old northern street name hey?

On the whole Terriers fans are a friendly bunch. That day I met loads of Fleet fans in 'The Rope Walk' pub behind the Panasonic Stand and had a great time chatting with 'real' football fans and I think that fact, coupled with Fleets fantastic performance, persuaded me to join in the fun and become a Fleet fan!

Now for the serious business of winning a place in the Football League! That will truly be a great day! Bring it On!

Regards to all
