Shifnal Sack Boss

Duffer

Recommended Posts

MFA strugglers Shifnal Town have appointed veteran midfielder John Powell as caretaker-manager for the third time following the departure of Bernard Mackie.

Powell, who joined Shifnal in 1990 from Newport Town, has been asked to take over at Phoenix Park following the sacking of Mackie.

Powell has a good track record after filling in for former bosses Kenny Howells and Reg Priest in the past, and chairman Glyn Davies hopes a new face in the dugout might inspire the club to a late season resurgence and says Powell can put himself in a position to take the post on a permanent basis.

"A different approach to things sometimes gees players up and that is what we're hoping," he said.

"When John has stepped in in the past he's got some good results and although no-one can work miracles we're hoping he'll do that again."
