FansFocus.Com Senior Cup Press Release

The 2007/8 FansFocus.Com Essex Senior Cup is the biggest yet with 44 sides competing for the prestigious silverware, currently held by AFC Hornchurch following last season’s 2-1 triumph over Great Wakering Rovers in front of over 1,200 spectator’s at Southend’s Roots Hall.

Southend themselves are back in the competition following a brief one-year absence, as are Colchester United, who last entered the competition in 1998/9. Clapton are also welcomed back in, whilst Senior League newcomers Mauritius Sports & Pennant are also included.

Clapton and Mauritius are in the hat for the first and second round draws which take place on Tuesday, 14 August on BBC Essex.

The draws will take place on the station at 7:20pm.

Twenty clubs will do battle in the opening two rounds for the right to play in the third round and a potential big tie.

Be sure to tune into 103.5/95.3FM tomorrow evening for the Live draws.

The team in MK has nothing to do with Wimbledon any more. The old Wimbledon were used as a means to get a league team in MK. They themselves now recognise that they have nothing to do with the old Wimbledon, hence the fact that all history in respect of Wimbledon FC has been returned to AFC Wimbledon. The fact that it is on show at Merton town hall in Wimbledon, is simply so that as many people as possible can see it. It would be pointless having it locked away in Kingston as there is nowhere it can be displayed securely and safely.

The thing that defines a club is its supporters, who by tradition follow the clubs colours, and badge. The Wimbledon FC badge now belongs to AFC Wimbledon. The name of the club as we have all seen in the past is second to the badge hence the fact that clubs who go into administration arise with a new name, but keep the original badge. With land hard to find in London, (and Wimbledon is in London not Surrey), the site of the stadium where home games is reduced to the third consideration. Obviously everyone would like to play where their spiritual home is, but that is not always possible therefore you have to look as close to home as possible. At the moment that for us is in Kingston, and by playing there we have helped Kingstonian to secure their future. One day we will return to Wimbledon, so playing in Kingston is a temporay measure while we find a new home.

The fans are the same fans from when you was a premier league club.If hornchurch got to the premier league, moved to cornwall and re named as hornchurch united then we would get big crowds.

You are only a big non league club because of the exploits of the original crazy gang
