Kurtis Townsend Stand at Cheshunt FC

Official opening of the Kurtis Townsend Stand

By Jim Tuite, Cheshunt Football Club.

The Mayor of the Borough of Broxbourne, Cllr. David Manning, officially opened Cheshunts new £5,000 covered terrace prior to their match with Witham Town last Saturday.

Named ‘The Kurtis Townsend Stand’, it is dedicated to the Cheshunt Player who was tragically killed whilst travelling to play for the Ambers in December 2001.

Holding 320 Spectators under cover, this reconstructed terrace will enable Cheshunt to obtain a ‘B’-grading for the Theobalds Lane Ground, which is a requirement of all Clubs seeking promotion to Division one of the Ryman League.

In his speech, the Mayor said Kurtis was “a talented and gifted young man” and “that by naming this Stand after him, future generations of Cheshunt Players and Supporters will see how much he was thought of and how deeply he was missed”.
