Staines take Medway from Hawks

Staines Town boss Nicky Forster has snapped up Harry Medway ahead of his club's must-win clash with Sutton United in the Vanarama South on Saturday.

While a deal to bring in a midfielder did not come off, the Swans boss did persuade left-back Medway to join the squad on loan until the end of the season and he will be drafted into Saturday's starting XI as Forster seeks to earn a victory which will keep the club's faint hopes of Step 2 survival alive.

Defender Luke Neville and striker Danny Bassett have been released by the club.

Forster has persisted with his efforts to recruit fresh blood but until Thursday this week, has been constantly knocked back. He is still looking for a midfielder and a target man.

"We are speaking to players all the time and for the obvious reasons they are reluctant to leave their clubs," he said. "We must have spoken to 30 players. With some of them, the clubs won't let them come.

"But we have to make sure they are going to improve us as there's no point bringing players and bodies in just for the sake of it.

"Harry will give us something extra and I'm delighted to get him in."

Swans face a crucial win-or-bust period, with a home collision with Hemel Hempstead to follow next Tuesday, then a pivotal away double-header, at Farnborough (March 7) and Bishop's Stortford (March 10).

"We don't give up, not when there is still 36 points to play for," insisted the boss.

"But we are running out of time, running out of games, we know that. It's becoming critical."

On Sutton he added: “Sutton are one of the better teams in the league, although their league position doesn’t show it this year. I think they’ve got a wealth of good players, with some Football League experience in there with some physical players too. It’s going to be a tough ask.”
